BCE Bearmail 10/26/18 - Don't Forget Family Movie Night Tonight!!!

October 26, 2018

Dear BCE Families,

Movie Night ~ I hope you can join me tonight as our own BCE Parent Club sponsors Family Movie Night!  The fun will begin at 6 pm with the showing of, Hotel Transylvania 3, Summer Vacation.  Admission is free and profits from concessions will support the 5th grade Science Camp Fund.

Lost and Found Clothing ~ While you are enjoying movie night, why not check out our ever expanding pile of lost and found clothing!  Our fabulous volunteers have worked hard to match items of clothing to their owners, but the majority does not have a name.  Volunteers will be taking the clothing to donate next Friday, 11/2, so try to drop by and identify items before then.

Fundraiser ~ The BCE student Leadership Team has chosen to raise funds to help people in Indonesia for tsunami and earthquake relief efforts. Donations will be accepted over the next few weeks in the collection box in the office.

Board Update ~ Please click here to read the latest SLV School Board Update.

Family Dinner Night ~ Boulder Creek Roadside Café will be donating 20% of their sales on Monday, from 11:30 am to 9:00 pm, to benefit our 4th grade classrooms. Thank you for your support!

New Book ~ At our recognition assemblies on Wednesday, classes received their new book supporting the importance of perseverance.  Rosie Revere, Engineer by Andrea Beauty celebrates a young girl's creativity and perseverance.  This fun and inspiring read can be found in our school library as well as the Boulder Creek library.

Earthquake Drill ~ Today was our first earthquake drill of the year.  Your students did a great job as we practiced to duck, cover, and hold and then to evacuate the classroom in a safe manner.  While we hope never to experience a significant earthquake during school hours, it's always better to be prepared!

Halloween Parade ~ Our BCE Halloween Parade is scheduled for 9 am, Wednesday October 31 on the upper playground.  Our BCE Bears will be making a big circle and one grade level at a time will walk in a smaller circle on the inside.  This will allow all of our students to be able to see each other.  We ask that all adults please stay behind the outside ring.  Thank you!

I will persist until I succeed. Always will I take another step. If that is of no avail I will take another, and yet another. In truth, one step at a time is not too difficult. I know that small attempts, repeated, will complete any undertaking.

~ Og Mandino

The BCE Way:  BE RESPECTFUL, BE SAFE, BE RESPONSIBLE

WAIT, WAIT, DON'T STOP! PLEASE CONTINUE READING TO SEE IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND UPDATES FROM OUR AMAZING BCE PARENT CLUB!

This is a reminder that San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District policy, as set by the Board of Trustees, declares that we are a fragrant-neutral district. As we continue to have assemblies and other site-based activities and meetings, please take care to follow the policies below for the sake of the students and members of our community who are highly allergic to fragrances and scents.

The SLVUSD Board of Trustees adopted a California School Board Association policy to make all district classrooms and offices fragrant neutral. BCE has parents, students, and community members with respiratory issues who can have negative reactions to fragrances. Please take care to follow the policy while on campus.

Staff and students shall refrain from bringing furred or feathered animals, stuffed toys that may collect dust mites, scented candles, incense or air fresheners and from using perfume or cologne, scented hair spray, nail polish or nail polish remover that are not fragrance-free in classrooms or other enclosed areas or buildings.

BCE Bearmail 10/5/18

October 5, 2018

Dear BCE Families,

Halloween Costumes ~ As we turn the calendar to October, I know many students are already planning their Halloween costumes. There are a few guidelines regarding costumes.  Costumes should be in good taste and safely constructed so that they do not interfere with regular class activities.  Gruesome costumes and bloody, fake wounds are not appropriate for an elementary school.  Weapons (including fakes), skateboards and roller blades are not allowed as part of costumes.   If you are unsure, please contact your child's teacher or the office before purchasing the costume.

Did you know???
If your student is 10 minutes late for school every day by the end of the school year they will be missing between 5 (grades 4 & 5) and 9 (kindergarten) days of important academic instruction.

Dangerous Driving ~ I received an email from a parent earlier last week who expressed extreme concern about unsafe driving that is occurring around the school.  He relayed an incident where a driver was looking at her phone and would have hit a child crossing the street had she not listened to her mother and stopped.  Only recently a young student in our valley was killed in an accident.  Please, please, please keep your children, and all our children, safe.  Drive slowly, follow the directions of the crossing guards, avoid distractions such as phones and be on high alert for pedestrians and other vehicles.  There is nothing more important than the safety of our students.  Thank you for taking care of our school community.

The small parking area at the top of Redwood is also becoming a hazard and a dangerous area for our students.  Cars are driving too fast and drivers have been reported to be distracted by their phones. The area is so tight that visibility is limited and creates a huge safety concern. Please consider dropping off and picking up at the front of the school where we have crossing guards and and a process that helps increase your students safety.

Drive for Schools ~ Would you like to win a car or $25,000 and support BCE?  Fundraising tickets are $5.00 each or a book of 6 for $25.00.  Tickets will be available in the BCE office through October 19th. 100% of the proceeds from ticket sales go straight to BCE!  Thank you for supporting our students!
