BCE Bearmail 10/25/13

October 25, 2013

Dear BCE Families,

Halloween - There are a few guidelines regarding costumes.  Costumes should be in good taste and safely constructed so that they do not interfere with regular class activities.  Gruesome costumes and bloody, fake wounds are not appropriate for an elementary school.  Weapons (including fakes), skateboards and roller blades are not allowed as part of costumes.   If you are unsure, please contact your child's teacher or the office before purchasing the costume.  The Halloween Parade is slated for 9:00 am on the upper playground.

Thank You!  - Thank you for supporting BCE with your generous donations.  The Drive for Schools fundraiser is complete and I for one will be keeping my fingers crossed that one of our BCE families will be driving a new car after the raffle this Sunday!

Donations for the Walk-Jog are continuing to come in.  Please try and get those turned in by the end of next week.

The generous donations you make in terms of time and money are invaluable to us.  It's such a great feeling to be part of a community that supports our students in so many important ways.

No School – Just a reminder that there is no school for our students on Friday November 1st.  It is a teacher workday and our staff will be down in Felton being trained in new and exciting technology and software.

Attendance  Facts = Studies prove there is a high correlation between chronic elementary absenteeism and high school drop out rates.

Thank you for supporting your student by getting them to school every day and on time!

Safety Tip of the Week: Please model the BCE Way by not taking a short cut through the parking lot.  Please walk around the perimeter on the outside of the chain boarder.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

BCE PARENTS CLUB EVENT & MEETING REMINDERS:

DRIVE FOR SCHOOLS - Annual Car GiveawayThanks to all the families who purchased and/or sold tickets.  We raised over $4,200!

The Drive for Schools drawing will be held at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk at 1pm on Sunday, October 27. You do not need to be present to win. The list of prizes keeps growing, see all the opportunity at: http://www.beachboardwalk.com/driveforschools/prizes.html  Good Luck!

Our internal BCE Parents Club drawing will be posted in our December Bear Track Newsletter. BCE families earned one drawing entry for each booklet sold.  Prizes are gift certificates donated by local businesses such as the Boulder Creek Brewery, Boulder Creek Pizza, Jenna Sue's, Red Pearl and Taqueria Los Amigos.

WALK/JOG-A-THON:  100% proceeds stay at BCE.  Pledge dollars due November 8.

Please make sure to have all pledges collected and turned into your classrooms by Friday, November 8, in order for them to count in the classroom and individual fundraiser contests.  Note, this is a 1-week extension since there will be no school on November 1

All classrooms that bring in $250 or more will be rewarded with playground/recess equipment (balls, jump ropes, etc.) for their classroom.  The higher the amount the more equipment they will earn.

Plus, for each $25 raised, the student will be entered into a drawing for their respective grade level and have an opportunity to win either a 2013-2014 BCE Yearbook or $20 Gift Certificate to the upcoming Fall Scholastic Book Fair. Top earner will earn a special prize.

Donations can now be made through our website: https://sites.google.com/site/bceparentsclub/. Please note student and teacher names in memo box in order for the donation to be counted in the classroom and individual contests.  Checks are to be made payable to BCE Parents Club.

Thanks again to all the volunteers who made the Walk/Jog-a-thon possible!
