BCE Bearmail 10/24/14

October 24, 2014

Dear BCE Families,

Halloween - There are a few guidelines regarding costumes.  Costumes should be in good taste and safely constructed so that they do not interfere with regular class activities.  Gruesome costumes and bloody, fake wounds are not appropriate for an elementary school.  Weapons (including fakes), skateboards and roller blades are not allowed as part of costumes.   If you are unsure, please contact your child's teacher or the office before purchasing the costume.  The Halloween Parade is slated for Thursday, October 30th at 9:00 am on the upper playground.

No School – Just a reminder that there is no school for our students on Friday October 31st.  It is a teacher workday and our staff will be trained in new and exciting curriculum practices

Family Conferences ~ Family Conferences are just around the corner.  Please return the sign up sheets to your student's teacher as soon as possible.  Our staff works very hard to arrange conference time that work for everyone.  The sooner you return your preferences to your teacher, the higher the likelihood that you will get one of your preferred times.

College Awareness Week  ~ The San Lorenzo Valley Board of Trustees has proclaimed the week of October 27 – November 3, 2014 as College Awareness Week.  We hope to promote a college going culture for our students and families and by doing that support our BCE Bears to pursue and achieve their dreams.

BCE Bearmail 10/17/14

October 17, 2014

Dear BCE Families,

Walk-Jog-a-Thon ~ It was a beautiful day for our Walk-Jog!  Many thanks to all our wonderful parent volunteers and a huge hug of appreciation for Dusty Gipson who will be advancing to the middle school next year with her daughter.  Dusty has done a fantastic job heading up the Walk-Jog-a-Thon over these past years.  She will be missed, but I know she's passing the baton on to some capable hands.  Thank you Dusty and all the parents that helped out today to make this event a success!

Drive for Schools ~ Our wonderful Parent Club is providing one last chance to turn in your raffle tickets.  You can turn in any remaining tickets and checks by Monday at 9am (to the office please!) and still be eligible to win the car or $25,000!  Good luck to all that have entered and THANK YOU for supporting BCE in this fundraiser that gives us 100% of the proceeds from ticket sales.

Paperwork for Field Trip Drivers ~ Thank you for being flexible as we implement our new student enrollment program, Info Snap.  Many of you completed online forms that would allow you to drive on field trips.  Unfortunately, teachers will still need hard copies of your insurance declaration page and a copy of your driver's license to verify the information that you submitted with your registration information.  At this time staff members do not have access to any supporting documentation that you may have uploaded.  If you did not complete any paperwork online, your student's teacher will give you the correct forms and let you know what documentation you need to submit.  Thanks again for supporting our students and volunteering to drive on field trips!

College & Career Readiness  ~ As a way to make our students aware of different colleges and training opportunities after high school, some of our staff members may be wearing college t-shirts or sweatshirts on Wednesdays.  It will give us the opportunity to talk about that particular college and remind them of the importance of being lifelong learners.

BCE Bearmail 10/10/14

October 10, 2014

Dear BCE Families,

Fire Prevention Week ~ We just finished up Fire Prevention Week here at BCE.  We want to extend our thanks to the Valley Fire Departments who help keep us safe.  Please ask your student what they learned this week and how that will help keep them safe in case of an emergency.

Lost & Found ~ Our lost and found pile continues to grow.  We have a large amount of sweaters and jackets that have accumulated over the past 6 weeks.  As the weather begins to get cooler (I'm sure it will someday!) your students will need those extra layers.  Please come by and take a look.  You may be able to save some money for raffle tickets if you don't have to buy that new jacket!

Don't forget to put your student's name on the inside collar of the garment.  This will help us return the item to your student should it be left on the playground.  Thank you!

Drive for Schools ~ Would you like to win a car or $25,000 and support BCE?  Raffle tickets are $5.00 each or a book of 6 for $25.00.  Tickets are available in the office and remember, all proceeds go to BCE!  Thank you for supporting our students!

Halloween Costumes ~ It's October and I know many students are already planning their Halloween costumes. There are a few guidelines regarding costumes.  Costumes should be in good taste and safely constructed so that they do not interfere with regular class activities.  Gruesome costumes and bloody, fake wounds are not appropriate for an elementary school.  Weapons (including fakes), skateboards and roller blades are not allowed as part of costumes.   If you are unsure, please contact your child's teacher or the office before purchasing the costume

College Awareness Week  ~ October 27 – November 3

BCE will be participating with the rest of SLVUSD in recognizing College Awareness Week. It is important that as an elementary school we begin to prepare students to attend college or other post-secondary educational programs.  Most of the jobs that our students will have as adults will require additional education past high school.  We want our BCE Bears to be prepared to succeed in any future they can dream of!

Up Coming Dates to Remember

  • Friday 10/17 = Walk-Jog-athon
  • Thursday 10/30 = BCE Halloween Parade
  • Friday 10/31 = No School (Teacher Work Day)
  • Tuesday 11/4 = Picture Retakes
  • Thursday 11/6 = Family Science Night
  • Tuesday 11/11 = No School (Veteran's Day)
  • Wednesday 11/12 = Family Dinner Night, Red Pearl

Attendance Facts:

According to Ed. Code section 48260 a student is considered a truant if they are absent from school without a valid excuse more than three days or tardy in excess of 30 minutes on each of more than three school days in one school year.

Thank you for supporting your student by getting them to school and being on time every day!

Building a habit of good attendance in elementary school will help your student do well in high school, college and any career that they choose.  It is much easier to establish the expectation of regular school attendance in elementary school than it is when your student gets to middle or high school.

Thank you for supporting your student by getting them to school and being on time every day!

Safety Tip of the Week:

Please do not park in the yellow drop-off zone on Harmon Street.  It creates an unsafe situation for our students by forcing them to walk in front of cars.
