BOULDER CREEK ELEMENTARY'S HOLIDAY GIFT SHIFT!

Please mark your calendar for the annual BCE Gift Shift, on Monday December 16, 12 pm – 6 pm. We will be collecting gently used toys, books, videos, and video games; however, we do not accept clothing items.  This year we would also like to have a section with items suitable for children to give to adults.  Donations can be delivered to the Office at Boulder Creek Elementary the week after Thanksgiving Vacation.  We will set up everything on Friday, December 13.

Then please plan to come to the Gift Shift on December 16!  All families are welcome to come.  Select and take home free gifts for your children and let your children possibly select something for you, or a sibling, while demonstrating the spirit of recycling.  Remember, you don't have to donate to participate.  Children must come with an adult, but adults don't need to come with children.

If you are interested in helping with setup, cleanup, or during the Gift Shift, contact Alissa Nolan at 338-0398 or totoros@pacbell.net.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Ø  Observe your child for signs and symptoms of mumps, described below.

Ø  If your child is not fully immunized with 2 doses of MMR:

o    and has received one (1) dose of MMR, a second dose should be administered as soon as possible
o    and has not received any doses of MMR, they should receive the first dose as soon as possible

INFORMATION

Ø  Mumps is a contagious viral illness spread by respiratory droplets, i.e. coughing, sneezing, nasal secretions, saliva. If exposed to mumps, you may become ill 12-25 days later.  If you become ill, you may spread the disease two days before developing symptoms and up to five days after.

Ø  Mumps is usually a mild disease. Symptoms may begin with a low-grade fever, mild runny nose, cough and body aches. These symptoms may be followed by swollen neck glands, or parotitis.  Occasionally mumps may cause serious complications. The most common complication is inflammation of the testicles in males who have reached puberty; rarely does this cause infertility.  Rarely may it cause encephalitis / meningitis.

Ø  If an outbreak of mumps occurs in a school setting, a student who is not fully immunized may be excluded from attending.
