BCE Bearmail 2/26/16

February 26, 2016

Dear BCE Families,

Pennies for Patients ~ BCE, you rock!  Because of our amazing and generous BCE community we were able to far surpass our goal of $300 and we raised $1,669 for the Pennies for Patients fundraiser.  The funds raised will go directly to help people with Leukemia and other blood cancers.  Thank you to our student leaders and their teacher advisers for making this fundraiser possible.

Talent Show ~ Thursday was our annual BCE Talent show and all I can say was WOW!  What a talented group of students we have here!  I was so impressed with their dedication and bravery.  I've already heard some of the kids planning their act for next year!

End of 2nd Trimester ~ It's hard to believe that today is the last day of our 2nd trimester!  I can't believe how quickly this year is going.  Report cards will be sent home with your students next Friday, March 4th.

Important Information ~ Please read the attached letter from our Superintendent, Dr. Bruton.  It contains important information of a legal case and its connected consequences regarding confidential student data.

Need ~ We are in need of children's pants.  We like to keep a supply of children's pants in the office in case of accidents or the occasional split seam.  Elastic or drawstring waists are best, but anything will work.  If your student has bottoms that they've outgrown, we'd appreciate the donation.  Thank you!

Math Night ~ We hope to see you at our parent math night, Tuesday, March 1, 6-7:30, in the Board Room at Quail Hollow. Click the link to RSVP, but please come even if you don't register online!

Family Art Night ~ Please join me on Thursday for BCE Family Arts Night! The Arts Council of Santa Cruz County along with our own BCE Parent Club is sponsoring this fun family event.  After a light dinner, families will rotate together though four different art experiences.  The fun begins at 6:00 pm.  I hope you can join us!

Yearbook Contest ~ Drum roll, please!  The winners for the 2015-2016 BCE Yearbook Cover Contest are:

1st Place (front cover):  Lila Arrasjid

2nd Place (back cover):  Mia Hamilton

We had 16 incredible cover entries from the 5th Grade.  The selection process was very, very tough for the BCE Staff and Teachers. Congratulations, Lila and Mia!

Lost and Found ~ Please come by and check out the extensive Lost and Found pile by the office.  Any items left at the end of the month will be collected and donated to a local charity.

Family Movie Night ~ What a great success!  Many thanks to the Gafford family and our fabulous Parent Club or making this fun evening possible.  I would also like to thank an anonymous donor who made a very generous donation to the 5th grade Science Camp fund.  Thank you!

February 5, 2016

Dear BCE Families,

Three day weekend ~ Just a reminder that this is the first of two three day weekends.  There will be no school Monday as we celebrate Lincoln's birthday.

CONGRATULATIONS TO STAFF, STUDENTS, AND PARENTS

The San Lorenzo Unified School District was notified on Thursday, February 4, 2016 that Boulder Creek Elementary has received the California Gold Ribbon School award. BCE scored well above the point requirements on the evaluation process to receive the award. We will not be required to participate in a site verification visit that is normally required after the submission of an application for the Gold Ribbon School award. We are very proud of the work and dedication that exemplifies the excellence at Boulder Creek Elementary.  We also wish to congratulate the staff, students and parents at San Lorenzo Valley Elementary who are also recipients of the California Gold Ribbon School award.  Go SLVUSD!

Valentine's Day ~ As February rolls in we start thinking about Valentine's Day.  Please remember that if your student brings a Valentine card for 1 student in the class, they need to bring cards for all the students in their class.  Valentine's Day is not a day for hurt feelings and hearts.
