That's enough for next year…let's finish out this year….

Thank you all so much for the support you've provided BCE during this past year.  With the generosity, support and dedication we've received from the BCE community it's been an amazing year and I'm so proud of our students and our school.

There are so many people in the background who make our school run.  On behalf of the staff and district, I would like to thank all of you.  Our Learning Community thrives because of all of our work together.

Also, I would like to thank you for all that you have done this year to support the learning of our students.  Our end of the year assessments suggest a positive correlation between student reading at home and overall reading growth.  I would like to encourage you to support your child in their summer reading by helping them choose "just right" books and providing time in his/her day for reading.  Your child's report card will indicate the end of the year reading level.  You can use www.scholastic.com/bookwizard to help choose books.

Finally, I would like recognize and thank two of our amazing staff members who will be leaving BCE this year.  Patty Milhous will be retiring after 21 years of service and Sherry Branson will retiring after 26 years of service to SLVUSD. These two women are dedicated, talented educators who have had a positive impact on the lives that they have touched and taught.  We will miss them and wish them good health and happiness.

Have a wonderful summer break.  Enjoy the time with your children as they grow up so quickly.

Denise

This is a reminder that San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District policy, as set by the Board of Trustees, declares that we are a fragrant-neutral district. As we continue to have assemblies and other site-based activities and meetings, please take care to follow the policies below for the sake of the students and members of our community who are highly allergic to fragrances and scents.

The SLVUSD Board of Trustees adopted a California School Board Association policy to make all district classrooms and offices fragrant neutral. BCE has parents, students, and community members with respiratory issues who can have negative reactions to fragrances. Please take care to follow the policy while on campus.

Staff and students shall refrain from bringing furred or feathered animals, stuffed toys that may collect dust mites, scented candles, incense or air fresheners and from using perfume or cologne, scented hair spray, nail polish or nail polish remover that are not fragrance-free in classrooms or other enclosed areas or buildings.

Special BCE Bearmail 6/12/18

June 12, 2018

Dear BCE Families,

Lockdown Today ~ You should have all received a message through School Messenger, but in case you didn't, the District Office and Boulder Creek Elementary campuses were on a general lockdown this morning. This was precautionary as there was a threat received for all YMCA facilities. Since there is a YMCA facility on each of these sites, we both went into a lockdown until we received notice from law enforcement.  The lockdown was lifted fairly quickly and all students and staff are SAFE. Thank you!

Did you know???

According to researchers from the University of Missouri, Kansas City, outdoor play is equally important for children of all ages. Research and studies show us that active, outdoor, free play can lead to improved academic performance. This is good to remember as we're about to begin a nine-week summer break.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

BCE PARENT CLUB EVENT & MEETING REMINDERS:

As the school year comes to a close we would like to thank all of our volunteers this year!  You make events like the dance, Walk/Jog, Carnival and Silent Auction and programs like Art Masterpiece or Learning Garden continue.  We look forward to your participation in the coming school year.

A survey from the Parent Club was sent home with your child or will be early next week.  It is only 9 questions and doesn't take very much time to fill out.  Please take the time to share your feedback with us and send back to your teacher before school is out.

THANK YOU to all of the parents and families who have donated their time to make this year's Parent Club events a success.  Many hands make light work and we certainly needed and appreciate every single moment you shared with us to make BCE your child's proud place to be!

Spiritwear!  We have some Spiritwear leftover in limited sizes!  If you would like to see if any shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies or sweats are available in youth or adult sizes of your choice contact Amber Jones at amber.jones4114@gmail.com

Next Meeting: We had our last Parents Club meeting of this school year last night. Parents and guardians are members just by having a  child or children enrolled at BCE.  Our next meeting is scheduled for August 23, 2018 from  6-8 PM.  We will discuss the plans for the following 2018-2019 school year including BCE's 150th anniversary events.  Babysitting and light snacks/tea always provided.

Speaking of BCE's 150th anniversary, is anyone interested in starting off our celebrations by walking with the BCE Parent Club in Boulder Creek's 4th of July Parade?  If you are, please contact Chrissy Dahl to sign up and/or put on our contact list.  150th anniversaries don't happen every day!  Let's proudly represent BCE together. Speech Contest ~ Our annual BCE speech contest was held yesterday and as always it was a huge success.  There were ten 5th graders who spoke on the theme of, "Humor: An Important Lifeskill."  Their speeches were heart-felt, inspiring and it was evident that a lot of thought and care was put into their work.   A special thank you to Mrs. Branson for coordinating our 23rd annual speech contest and congratulations to all our participants.

I'd like to recognize our top four finishers:

1.     Stella Athenais

2.     Ryah Johnston

3.     Rhiannon Lawton

4.     Keegan Hickey

Well done!

Library ~ The BCE library is closed for the school year.  Please return any library books your student still may have.  Payment for lost or damaged books can be made in the office.  Thank you!
