BCE Bearmail 1/24/14

January 24, 2014
Dear BCE Families,

No School. ~ Just a reminder that this will be a four day weekend. Monday is a District holiday (Semester Break) and Tuesday is a Teacher Work Day.  We’ll see you back at BCE on Wednesday the 29th.

Field Trips ~ If you will be driving on a classroom field trip please make sure to give your student’s teacher all of your completed and current insurance forms at least two weeks in advance.  Thank you for driving on our field trips, we couldn’t do it without you!

Soccer ~ It was an intense game with lots of great plays and incredible sportsmanship.  In the end the staff went ahead of the 5th graders and won the game. Congratulations to all!

Kind Hearts! ~ Yes it was facial hair Friday, but the student council also decided to sell cups of apple cider to raise money to support our kindergarten friend who was recently diagnosed with leukemia.  What wonderful, thoughtful students we have here at BCE - I’m so very proud of them!

Common Core Standards ~ Our teachers have begun the important work of preparing for implementing the Common Core State Standards for English/Language Arts next year.  Grade level teams are meeting with their counterparts from SLE and mapping out a curriculum guide.  This great collaborative work will produce great opportunities for learning!

Fwd: BCE Bearmail 1/17/14

January 17, 2014
Dear BCE Families,

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. ~ Just a reminder that this is a three day weekend as we celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  Dr. King would have been 85 years old this year had he lived.

Absences ~ If your student will be absent from school due to illness, please call the BCE Attendance Line at 338-2887.  Please call every day until you student returns and let us know how their recovery is going.

Kindergarten Registration ~ If you or someone you know has a student ready to enter kindergarten in the 2014-2015 school year, you'll be happy to know that we are planning three Kindergarten Visitation events.  The first one is tentatively scheduled for March.  Please look for additional information next month.

Flu Season ~ We're in the middle of flu season; please remind your students to wash their hands with soap and water on a regular basis.  Donations of anti-bacterial wipes are also always appreciated.

Up Coming Dates to Remember

  • Monday 1/20 = No School (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday)
  • Monday 1/27 = No School (Semester Break)
  • Tuesday 1/28 = No School (Teacher Work Day)
  • Thursday 2/6 = Parents Club (6:30 pm – 8 pm)
  • Monday 2/10 = No School (Lincoln's Birthday)
  • Monday 2/17 = No School (President's Day)
  • Thursday 2/20 = Site Council (3 pm – 4 pm)
  • Thursday 2/27 = Positive Parenting Program, Helping With Homework (6 pm – 8 pm)

Attendance Facts = Good News!! Last month BCE had the largest percentage increase in attendance for all four of our district schools!  GREAT job and keep up the good work!

Thank you for supporting your student by getting them to school every day and on time!

Safety Tip of the Week: Please make sure your student knows how they're getting home each day.  Every day we have students coming into the office to make phone calls to find out how they're getting home or where they should go.  This can be scary for the students and can lead to confusion for all parties involved.

Wishing you all a wonderful three-day weekend!

Flu Season ~ We're in the middle of flu season; please remind your students to wash their hands with soap and water on a regular basis.  Donations of anti-bacterial wipes are also always appreciated.

Up Coming Dates to Remember

  • Thursday 1/16 = Site Council (3 pm – 4 pm), Parents Club (6:30 pm – 8 pm)
  • Monday 1/20 = No School (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday)
  • Monday 1/27 = No School (Semester Break)

  • Thursday 2/27 = Positive Parenting Program, Helping With Homework (6 pm – 8 pm)

Attendance Facts = If circumstances prevent your student from being at school for five or more consecutive days, we can create an Independent Study plan for them so they are able to keep up with their important school work.  Of course nothing can replace classroom instruction.  Most of the lessons that the teachers present to the students cannot be translated to a worksheet.  Students also suffer a social disconnect from their friends when they are away from their classmates for an extended period of time and can have a difficult time reconnecting.

Thank you for supporting your student by getting them to school every day and on time!

Safety Tip of the Week: If you arrive on campus before 2:30 pm to pick your student up at the end of the day, please come by the office to sign in.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
