Dear BCE Families,

 

Happy Halloween! ~ I hope you had a chance to make it up to our Halloween parade.  The costumes were amazing, the kids were excited, and the skies were dry! It made for quite a wonderful morning.

Halloween Trick? ~ Well, we thought someone was playing a trick on us, but it turned out a water main was ruptured in town and BCE was out of water for a portion of our afternoon.  Our maintenance department brought jugs of water to campus and the kids 

were able to have something to drink with their Halloween treats!  The last update we received indicated that the water should be back up and running before evening.

No School – Just a reminder that there is no school for our students tomorrow, Friday October 30th.  It is a teacher workday and our staff will be being trained in new and exciting curriculum practices.

Family Science Night ~ Please join me next Thursday evening for Family Science Night.  Our wonderful Parent Club is sponsoring this fun and educational event.  San Jose Children's Discovery Museum will be at BCE with a variety of activities to explore and learn about air.  Join us at 6:30 next Thursday in the MP for "Air We Go!"

Family Conferences ~ Conferences will be held the week of November 16^th through the 20th.  If you have not yet received sign-up information from your student's teacher, you should be receiving it soon. 

Dismissal times for Conference Week are as follows: (Note that these are NOT early out times.)

• Kindergarten:  11:50 am  (There will be no Kindergarten bus – the regular bus will leave at 12:20 pm)
• Grades 1-3:  12:10 pm
• Grades 4, 5:  12:15 pm

 

Our Thanksgiving Break this year is a week long.  There will be no school the week of November 23^rd – 27^th.

Did you know???

It's always better to be safe than sorry.  If your students are going out trick or treating on Saturday, please make sure they are in a group supervised by an adult and remind them not to eat any candy or treats until you've inspected them.

Dear BCE Families,

 

Halloween - There are a few guidelines regarding costumes.  Costumes should be in good taste and safely constructed so that they do not interfere with regular class activities.  Gruesome costumes and bloody, fake wounds are not appropriate for an elementary school.  Weapons (including fakes), skateboards and roller blades are not allowed as part of costumes.   If you are unsure, please contact your child's teacher or the office before purchasing the costume.  The Halloween Parade is slated for Thursday, October 29^th at 9:00 am on the upper playground.

No School – Just a reminder that there is no school for our students next Friday, October 30th.  It is a teacher workday and our staff will be being trained in new and exciting curriculum practices in Writing Workshop.

Other Important Calendar Information ~ Just a reminder that Family Conferences are the week of November 16^th – 20^th and we will be on a minimum day schedule.  Kindergarten will be dismissed at 11:50, 1^st – 3^rd will be dismissed at 12:10 and 4^th and 5^th graders will be dismissed at12:15.

 

Our Thanksgiving Break this year is a week long.  There will be no school the week of November 23^rd – 27^th

 

Banana Slug Band ~ Our 1^st through 3^rd graders were treated to a performance by the Banana Slug Band today.  Please ask your student about this fun assembly.

Dear BCE Families,

 

Fire Prevention Week ~ We just finished up Fire Prevention Week here at BCE.  We want to extend our thanks to the Valley Fire Departments who help keep us safe.  Please ask your student what they learned this week and how it will help keep them safe in case of an emergency.

Lost & Found ~ Our lost and found pile continues to grow.  We have a large amount of sweaters, and jackets that have accumulated over the past 6 weeks.  As the weather begins to get cooler (I'm sure it will someday!) your students will need those extra layers.  Please come by and take a look. 

Don't forget to put your student's name inside on the inside collar of the garment.  This will help us return the item to your student should it be left on the playground.  Thank You!

 

College & Career Week  ~ October 26^th – 30th

BCE will be participating with the rest of SLVUSD in recognizing College & Career Week. It is important that as an elementary school we begin to prepare students to attend college or other post-secondary educational programs.  Most of the jobs that our students will have as adults will require additional education past high school.  We want our BCE Bears to be prepared to succeed in any future they can dream of!

BCE FAMILY DINNER NIGHT - TONIGHT, October 7, 5:00-10:00 PM

The Boulder Creek Golf Course and Country Club will be hosting a spaghetti and lasagna feed for their 1st BCE Family Dinner Night.  Salad bar and bread will be included with each meal.  A percentage of the night's proceeds will benefit the 4th Grade.  For double the fun, the BCE Parent Club will be hosting B-I-N-G-O between 5:30-7:30.

Ice Cream! ~ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!  I hope to see many of you between 5 and 7pm for our annual Ice Cream Social.  Remember the first scoop is free for all BCE students!

Recognition Assembly ~ We had our first recognition assembly of the year on Wednesday. Thank you to our Parent Club for purchasing the BCE Way dog tags that each student will get this year when they are recognized for demonstrating the BCE Way.  Congratulations to all our students who were recognized for being Responsible, Safe and/or Respectful.  We have amazing students here at BCE and I know the teachers struggled at being able to honor only a handful at this assembly.  Luckily, we have five more assemblies to get them all up on stage!

 

Cabrillo Open House ~ Cabrillo College will be hosting an Open House on Saturday October 17^th from 10am-2pm.  This is an opportunity for you and your student to explore one of our local college campuses.  It's never too early to expose our students to the idea of college and post secondary training.

Building a habit of good attendance in elementary school will help your student do well in high school, college and any career that they choose to peruse.  It is much easier to establish the expectation of regular school attendance in elementary school than it is when your student gets to middle or high school.  THANK YOU!

Someone from this area is going to win the big prize, $25,000 or a CAR, and it might as well be YOU!!  The Drive for Schools program is one of the best ways to support BCE.  100% of proceeds from the ticket sales goes to BCE.  Purchasing a ticket for $5 or a booklet of 6 tickets for $25 is like giving money directly to the school except you also get a chance to win a car or $25,000 cash!  You can get your tickets from the pink order form that went home with your child, at the BC Pharmacy, the Ice Cream Social, catch us in front of Johnnie's on designated days, or just stop into the school office.  If you would like to opt out of this fall fundraiser, look towards the bottom of your flier in order to check that option.

 

Ice Cream Social – TONIGHT from 5-7pm on the BCE Uppers!!!!

You know you don't want to miss the social event of the season!  So make your plans now to be at the Ice Cream Social on Friday, October 2nd from 5pm to 7pm.  Greet our fabulous Kindergarten teachers to get your tickets, head over to the fantastic fifth grade scoopers to get your favorite flavor, and then sit back and share your greatness with the other amazing members of our school community.  You know it won't be the same without you!  The first scoop is free for all current BCE students.  Additional scoops are 50¢. 

 

BCE FAMILY NOODLE NIGHT - Wednesday, October 7, 5:00-10:00 PM

The Boulder Creek Golf Course and Country Club will be hosting a spaghetti and lasagna feed for their 1st BCE Family Dinner Night.  Salad bar and bread will be included with each meal.  A percentage of the night's proceeds will benefit the 4th Grade.  For double the fun, the BCE Parents Club will be hosting B-I-N-G-O between 5:30-7:30.

 

Parent Club Meeting – Thursday, October 8, 6:30-7:30pm, BCE Multi-purpose room

Please join us at the second meeting of the school year.  It is never too late to get involved.   Childcare will be provided at this scent-free meeting. 

 

YEARBOOK KICK-OFF MEETING – Monday, October 19, 6:00  –  SAVE THE DATE
