Dear BCE Families,
Happy Valentine's Day!
Three day weekend ~ Just a reminder that this is the last of our three day weekends for awhile. There will be no school Monday as we celebrate Presidents Day.
Cell Phones ~ If your student carries a cell phone on campus we need to have a permission slip signed by you on file in the office. Additionally, cell phones need to be turned off during school hours and kept in backpacks.
Family Movie Night ~ I hope you all are able to join me next Friday Night in our MP as our wonderful Parent Club sponsors Family Movie Night. We'll be watching Inside Out. Don't forget admission and popcorn are free and there will be a bake sale to support 5th grade Science Camp.
5th Annual Ukulele Extravaganza Spaghetti Dinner! ~ Support music programs in local public schools AND enjoy a little Aloha this winter at the 5th annual Ukulele Extravaganza and Spaghetti Dinner, a benefit for music programs in the San Lorenzo Valley School District, held on Friday, February 19th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the San Lorenzo Valley Middle School Gym. Bring the family for a fun-filled evening of entertainment and delicious food for a great cause. Bring your Ukulele and play along! Ukulele Club of Santa Cruz sing along, youth ukulele ensembles, silent auction and more! Plus, special prize for the silliest hat.
Tickets available at Tiki King's Ukulele's of Felton, (831) 707-7027 or ukuleles@tikiking.com and at Westside Beauty in Scotts Valley or at the door. All donations benefit music programs at SLV Middle School, SLV High School, SLV Elementary, and Boulder Creek Elementary School. Mahalo for supporting music education!
Pennies for Patients ~ Our wonderful student leadership group has organized a fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Each classroom has a small cardboard box where students and families can deposit change. The idea behind Pennies for Patients is that our small change can make a BIG change for people with leukemia, lymphoma and other blood cancers. Thank you for encouraging your students as they demonstrate their generosity and compassion.
Helping Your Child with Math Homework ~ Thank you BCE and SLE families for responding to our survey about your child and math at home. Please mark your calendars for Tuesday, March 1, 6-7:30pm for an interactive night of elementary math. Mrs. Myers from SLVE and Mrs. Ebrahimian from BCE will be presenting information and doing activities based upon your survey responses. The event will be held on the Quail Hollow campus. Some of the many topics covered will be: helping your child work through the problem, ways to communicate with your child and not give away the answer, and clarification on common core math. All elementary families, K-5, are invited to attend since topics are helpful at any age. Please RSVP by clicking on the following link so we can get a general head count:

Experts suggest that you keep your computer in a common area, not in individual bedrooms, where you can watch and monitor its use.
Wishing you all a wonderful three day weekend!

This link is provided as a courtesy for parents & students, by the San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District, to receive information of current local events and opportunities. The San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District does not sponsor or endorse any of the organizations or events that are located here.
The Flyer Process for San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District is posted on the "home" page of the District website at www.slvusd.org. The flyers and/or blurbs are no longer inserted into the school newsletters or distributed to the children. The District is making an effort to reduce the amount of paper that is sent home with your child(ren) and is working together to streamline the newsletter so that you read about the most important information regarding your child's school. The District has created a website where all of the approved flyers will be posted (Community Opportunity).
