May 12, 2017

Dear BCE Families,

Carnival Help ~ The BCE Carnival is TOMORROW! An event this amazing requires a lot of support.  If you have not yet had the opportunity to sign up to help, please check in at the Volunteer Booth.   The booth will be located near the benches outside of the front office. Thank you for modeling such great community values.  Your students are so proud and happy to see their families participating in our BCE community.  Thank you for your support, I look forward to seeing you all at the carnival tomorrow!

Band Festival ~ I'd like to invite you to the 8th Annual SLVUSD "District-Wide Band Festival" on May 30 at 7 pm in the SLVHS Gym.

This is the one time during the year that you can hear the BCE, SLE, SLVMS and SLVHS bands all in one place.  It's a fun way to celebrate how hard we've worked this year (or more) as well as see the progression from elementary through high school. Our finale for the evening will feature all 150+ performers playing together which is something you just have to see/hear to believe!

The event is free but donations will be accepted and there will be a $5 hotdog dinner available at 6 pm.

I hope you'll consider joining us for this fun evening of music!

Family Survey ~ It's that time of year again!  Please take a moment to use this link to complete our Family Survey.  The information we receive from the survey guides us in our plans for next school year.  Thank you for your time.

Need Kindergarten? ~ Kindergarten registration for fall 2017 opened on March 15.  Visit the BCE office to pick up a registration packet and sign up for a spot to attend one of our two remaining Kindergarten orientations and tours.  The last tour will take place on May 19 (adults only please).  To begin the registration process, please plan on bringing your child's birth certificate, immunization record and proof of address (e.g. utility bill with your name and address).  For more information contact Alma, our Registrar - asteinberg@slvusd.org.

Children must be five years old by September 1 in order to enroll in Kindergarten.  If your student has a September, October or November birthday you might be interested in our Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program.  There will be a TK information presentation for adults only on May 23 at 2 pm.  For more information please call the BCE office at 831-338-6413.

We're looking forward to your student joining our BCE learning community!

Did you know???

Missing classes in elementary school sets the stage for problems later. If students are absent or tardy it is often difficult for them to stay at grade level. Students who don't read at grade level by the end of third grade are four times more likely to become high school dropouts.

Thank you for supporting your student by getting them to school every day and on time!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

The BCE Way:  BE RESPECTFUL, BE SAFE, BE RESPONSIBLE

BCE PARENT CLUB EVENT & MEETING REMINDERS:

The Amazing Annual BCE Carnival!!! – BCE's famous Carnival and Silent Auction will be TOMORROW from 10:30 to 3:30 on the uppers' blacktop.  It's never too late to volunteer, so come along tomorrow and check in at the Volunteer Booth if you have time to spare.  Thank you all for making this possible!

New Officers needed – It's the time of year when we start looking ahead to next year's Parent Club board.  We have a few officers who will not be running for their positions next year.  We will definitely need a secretary (or two co-secretaries), vice-president (or two vice-presidents), and a treasurer (or two co-treasurers).  We hope you will strongly consider joining this lovely group to support our school.

Open House BBQ – Attention all 4th grade parents!!  We need you! Not only is the Open House BBQ a long standing BCE tradition, but it is also our ticket for reducing the science camp expense for our soon to be 5th graders. We will need all of your help. Please prepare to either set up, BBQ, run the cash register, serve food, cut onions & tomatoes, bake treats, clean up, or work at the bake sale table. Please email Tammy at bcepc.execs@gmail.com and specify the area you would like to work in.

The cost can be as much as $275 per student.  The Parent Club offers several events to help lower that cost.  The Open House BBQ on May 18 is one of those events. 100% of the proceeds will go into our children's science camp fund.  So, we'll need all hands on deck to run the Open House BBQ this year.

Parent Club meeting – Please note that the May Parent Club meeting has been moved from Thursday, May 11th to Tuesday, May 23rd. It will still be amazing! It will still be at 6:30 pm in the library, and it will still have free childcare.

Facebook- Do you use Facebook?  BCE Parent's Club has launched a Facebook group with over 250 members.
