BCE Bearmail 10/5/18

October 5, 2018

Dear BCE Families,

Halloween Costumes ~ As we turn the calendar to October, I know many students are already planning their Halloween costumes. There are a few guidelines regarding costumes.  Costumes should be in good taste and safely constructed so that they do not interfere with regular class activities.  Gruesome costumes and bloody, fake wounds are not appropriate for an elementary school.  Weapons (including fakes), skateboards and roller blades are not allowed as part of costumes.   If you are unsure, please contact your child's teacher or the office before purchasing the costume.

Did you know???
If your student is 10 minutes late for school every day by the end of the school year they will be missing between 5 (grades 4 & 5) and 9 (kindergarten) days of important academic instruction.

Dangerous Driving ~ I received an email from a parent earlier last week who expressed extreme concern about unsafe driving that is occurring around the school.  He relayed an incident where a driver was looking at her phone and would have hit a child crossing the street had she not listened to her mother and stopped.  Only recently a young student in our valley was killed in an accident.  Please, please, please keep your children, and all our children, safe.  Drive slowly, follow the directions of the crossing guards, avoid distractions such as phones and be on high alert for pedestrians and other vehicles.  There is nothing more important than the safety of our students.  Thank you for taking care of our school community.

The small parking area at the top of Redwood is also becoming a hazard and a dangerous area for our students.  Cars are driving too fast and drivers have been reported to be distracted by their phones. The area is so tight that visibility is limited and creates a huge safety concern. Please consider dropping off and picking up at the front of the school where we have crossing guards and and a process that helps increase your students safety.

Drive for Schools ~ Would you like to win a car or $25,000 and support BCE?  Fundraising tickets are $5.00 each or a book of 6 for $25.00.  Tickets will be available in the BCE office through October 19th. 100% of the proceeds from ticket sales go straight to BCE!  Thank you for supporting our students!

The BCE Way:  BE RESPECTFUL, BE SAFE, BE RESPONSIBLE

This is a reminder that San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District policy, as set by the Board of Trustees, declares that we are a fragrant-neutral district. As we continue to have assemblies and other site-based activities and meetings, please take care to follow the policies below for the sake of the students and members of our community who are highly allergic to fragrances and scents.

The SLVUSD Board of Trustees adopted a California School Board Association policy to make all district classrooms and offices fragrant neutral. BCE has parents, students, and community members with respiratory issues who can have negative reactions to fragrances. Please take care to follow the policy while on campus.
Staff and students shall refrain from bringing furred or feathered animals, stuffed toys that may collect dust mites, scented candles, incense or air fresheners and from using perfume or cologne, scented hair spray, nail polish or nail polish remover that are not fragrance-free in classrooms or other enclosed areas or buildings.
BCE PARENT CLUB EVENT & MEETING REMINDERS:

Drive For Schools tickets will be on sale until October 18th. Ideally each student would sell a

100% of profits go to the school which means it is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year.

Our next Parents club meeting is next Thursday, October 11th at 6 PM in the Boulder Creek
Elementary library. Come on down listen and/or speak and get involved.

If you miss out on a handout from Parents Club, or need another copy, there are always more in
the office. If you need more box tops sheets, or another calendar just ask!

Remember to shop Amazon Smiles, it is another easy way you can help earn money for the
school. Simply go to smile.amazon.com and choose Boulder Creek Elementary Parent Club as
your beneficiary. Then every time you shop a small amount goes to our school. You must shop
Amazon Smiles for the school to benefit from your Amazon order. It is not applicable from the

This link is provided as a courtesy for parents & students, by the San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District, to receive information of current local events and opportunities.  The San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District does not sponsor or endorse any of the organizations or events that are located here.
The Flyer Process for San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District is posted on the "home" page of the District website at www.slvusd.org.   The flyers and/or blurbs are no longer inserted into the school newsletters or distributed to the children.  The District is making an effort to reduce the amount of paper that is sent home with your child(ren) and is working together to streamline the newsletter so that you read about the most important information regarding your child's school.  The District has created a website where all of the approved flyers will be posted (Community Opportunity).
