BCE Bearmail 11/2/18

November 2, 2018

Dear BCE Families,

Family Science Night ~ Thursday Night is Family Science Night! Please join us on November 8 at 6:30 in our Multi-Purpose room.  The San Jose Children's Discovery Museum will be coming to BCE.  The theme of tonight's science night is Secret Agent Science!  These fun interactive experiments and exhibits will bring out your inner adventure seeker!

Many thanks to our wonderful Parent Club for hosting this event and providing our families with this terrific opportunity.

Providing Support ~ Our kind and empathetic BCE Leadership group is raising money for the earthquake and tsunami victims in Indonesia.  Just over a month ago almost 2,000 people died and 70,000 homes were damaged or destroyed as a result of these natural disasters.  There is a large red donation box in the office and students who would like to contribute are encouraged to do chores or small jobs to earn money to donate. Thank you for your support and generosity.

Power School Registration ~ If you have not updated your student's Power School registration, which needs to be done annually, you should have received three notices (email, mailed hard copy and letter sent home with student) reminding you to complete this important responsibility. Since having current and accurate contact information is a safety issue, starting November 26, 2018, students will not be allowed to participate in field trips or any off campus activity until their Power School registration has been updated. Please call Alma Steinberg, our Registrar at 831-338-6413 if you need help or have any questions. You can also come into the office to use our computer and Mrs. Steinberg will be right here if you need support.

Reminder ~ Just a reminder that there will be NO SCHOOL on Monday November 12.  We will be celebrating Veterans' Day and honoring our veterans, past and present, who have served the United States.

Important Calendar Information ~ Just a reminder that Family Conferences start next Friday, November 9 and will resume on Tuesday November 13 after the Veterans' Day holiday.  We will be on a minimum day schedule.  Kindergarten will be dismissed at 11:50, 1st – 3rd will be dismissed at 12:10 and 4th and 5th graders will be dismissed at 12:15.

Fun! ~ I hope you had a chance to make it up to our Halloween parade.  The costumes were amazing, the kids were excited, and the skies were dry!  It made for quite a wonderful morning.  I also want to send a BIG thank you to our BCE Parent Club and the Gafford family for making last Friday's Family Movie Night such a success.

Fall Back ~ Don't forget to change your clock this weekend.  It's the end of daylight savings time and we get to move our clocks back and get back that hour of sleep we lost in the spring!

BCE Book Fair ~ The Book Fair will take place in our library during Family Conference days, 11/9 & 11/13 – 11/16, hours are 8 am - 4 pm with the exception of Friday 11/16 when the Book Fair will close at 2:00 pm. Our book fairs are the only source of funding available to our library and all profits go to purchase new books and library equipment for BCE students.  When you are visiting campus for your student's conference, consider stopping by for a look and perhaps even some holiday shopping!

The BCE Way:  BE RESPECTFUL, BE SAFE, BE RESPONSIBLE

WAIT, WAIT, DON'T STOP! PLEASE CONTINUE READING TO SEE IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND UPDATES FROM OUR AMAZING BCE PARENT CLUB!

This is a reminder that San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District policy, as set by the Board of Trustees, declares that we are a fragrant-neutral district. As we continue to have assemblies and other site-based activities and meetings, please take care to follow the policies below for the sake of the students and members of our community who are highly allergic to fragrances and scents.

The SLVUSD Board of Trustees adopted a California School Board Association policy to make all district classrooms and offices fragrant neutral. BCE has parents, students, and community members with respiratory issues who can have negative reactions to fragrances. Please take care to follow the policy while on campus.

Staff and students shall refrain from bringing furred or feathered animals, stuffed toys that may collect dust mites, scented candles, incense or air fresheners and from using perfume or cologne, scented hair spray, nail polish or nail polish remover that are not fragrance-free in classrooms or other enclosed areas or buildings.
