BCE Bearmail 11/14/14

November 14, 2014

Dear BCE Families,

Mountain Community Resources ~ Our staff had the opportunity to meet with representatives from Mountain Community Resources on Wednesday.  We were so impressed with their presentation about some of the services they offer (food bank, parent education, disaster preparedness, etc.) and would like to encourage you to contact them if you would like to take advantage of any of their services, or even use them as a springboard to other community resources.  Please contact them at www.communitybridges.org or phone them at 335-6600.  We are very lucky to have this amazing resource to support all our families in the valley.

Canned Food Drive ~ The Valley Christmas Project Canned Food Drive is up and running.  Please send in your non-perishable donations to help support families in our community.  This is a great opportunity for our children to discover the good feeling we receive when we do good things for others.

Family Conferences ~ Conferences start Wednesday (November 19th) and run through the following Tuesday (November, 25th)

Dismissal Times: (Note that these are NOT early out times.  Grades 1-5 are dismissed an hour earlier).

Clothing donation ~ We have run out of extra pants for both boys and girls in K-3 grades.  If you have old pants, especially sweatpants (fit all shapes and sizes!), please consider donating them to the BCE office.

BCE PARENTS CLUB EVENT & MEETING REMINDERS:

Book Fair
Books! Books! Who doesn't love books?!  The BCE Book Fair begins next week on Monday, November 17th – just in time for the holidays.  This is your chance to make all of the folks on your holiday list happier than a pigeon driving a bus.  Just stop by the library any day next week before, after or during school (8 am - 5 pm) and shop away.  While you're at it, buy yourself something nice too.  You deserve it!
Ms. Woolliscroft could really use some extra elves.  If you would like to volunteer to help out, please sign up at Fall Book Fair (click on this link) or at the BCE office.

Holiday Gift Shift
It's time to clean out your closets!  Please mark your calendar for the annual BCE Gift Shift on Friday, December 12, 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm.  We will be collecting gently used toys, books, DVDs and video games; however, we do not accept clothing items.  We will also have a section with items suitable for children to give to adults.  Donations can be delivered to the office at BCE from Monday, December 1 through Thursday, December 11.  Then it's your turn to shop! All families are welcome.   Select and take home free gifts for your children and let your children possibly select something for you, or a sibling while demonstrating the spirit of recycling.  Remember, you don't have to donate to participate.  Children must come with an adult, but adults don't need to come with children.  If you are interested in helping with setup, cleanup or during the Gift Shift, please contact: Theresa Brees @ Breesbc@yahoo.com,, or Melanie Dudley @ 831-338-3365

Yearbook
We have a great process for getting as many students represented in this year's book as possible.  We have an email that any and all can send pictures to after a classroom or school event.  Just email your photos for sharing to bouldercreekyearbook@gmail.com.  Only our wonderful Committee Chairperson, Wendy Sigmund, will be able to view them.  Please include the event in your email.  Thanks a ton!!

Walk/Jog-a-thon
Thank you all for your support of this fabulous event and fundraiser.  We are still accepting pledges so send them along as you get them.  You all make BCE such an amazing place to be!

The Flyer Process for San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District is posted on the "home" page of the District website at www.slvusd.org.   The flyers and/or blurbs are no longer inserted into the school newsletters or distributed to the children.  The District is making an effort to reduce the amount of paper that is sent home with your child(ren) and is working together to streamline the newsletter so that you read about the most important information regarding your child's school.  The District has created a website where all of the approved flyers will be posted (Community Opportunity).
