Dear BCE Families,
THANK YOU ~ Thank you all for your generous donations to the Gift Shift and the Canned Food Drive! What a great example of kindness and compassion you are for our students. I had a delightful morning of being with students at the Gift Shift. The smiles on their faces and the joy they had when they left with gifts for their loved ones are truly the spirit of the holiday!
Bryan Stow ~ On Thursday your students had the opportunity to participate in a wonderful and inspiring assembly with Bryan Stow. Bryan is the Giants fan who was brutally beaten several years ago by two Dodger fans after a baseball game. Bryan has made a remarkable recovery and came to BCE to talk about his story and about living a bully free life. If you haven't had the chance to talk to your student about their impressions, please take a moment to do so. I imagine most of them found it as inspirational as I did.
I would also like to mention the Bryan Stow Foundation (
ryanstowfoundation.org). The foundation offers assemblies free of charge, but raises money to pay for travel expenses. While Bryan's talks have been focused in the local and Bay Area, the hope is to bring his important mission to other parts of the state and country. Please visit the web site for more information about Bryan's story and ways that you can support spreading his message.Bell Choir ~ I had the pleasure of attending our School Board meeting on Thursday evening and enjoying a lovely performance by the BCE/SLE Bell Choir. What a treat to be able to enjoy beautiful music, the happy faces of children and the proud faces of their families! Many thanks to our amazing music teacher Carey Liston for making the concert possible.
Stormy Weather ~ We made it through this recent batch of rough weather and know more will be on the way soon. Please make sure we have current contact information for you as well as a complete list of emergency contacts. With the possibility of road closures please consider having an emergency contact on both the north and south side of BCE. While your students will be safe here at school, we know they'll be more comfortable with a friend or family member.

Did you know???
Missing 2 weeks of class time each year in primary school means a total of 14 weeks teaching time missed— this could have a real impact on their basic literacy and math skills.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

The San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District does not sponsor or endorse any of the organizations or events that are located here.
The Flyer Process for San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District is posted on the "home" page of the District website at www.slvusd.org. The flyers and/or blurbs are no longer inserted into the school newsletters or distributed to the children. The District is making an effort to reduce the amount of paper that is sent home with your child(ren) and is working together to streamline the newsletter so that you read about the most important information regarding your child's school. The District has created a website where all of the approved flyers will be posted (Community Opportunity).
