BCE Bearmail 11/18/16

November 18, 2016

Dear BCE Families,

Thanksgiving Holiday ~ Please remember that our Thanksgiving break begins Monday and there will be no school next week from 11/21 – 11/25.  I wish all of you a wonderful Thanksgiving and I for one will be giving thanks for having the privilege of working with these amazing students, fabulous families, and sensational staff!

Positive Parenting Program (Triple P) ~ Please click here to view more information about three upcoming seminars to be held at BCE.  Triple P is the world's leading positive parenting program committed to strengthening families by promoting positive relationships.  The seminars will take place on Nov. 29, Dec. 1, and Dec 6.  You can attend one, two or all three of the seminars.

Community Letter ~ Please read a community letter from our Sheriff, Jim Hart.  Click here for English.  Click here for Spanish.

Science Fair ~ Just a reminder that the BCE Science Fair will be taking place February 1 – 3 2017.  All students from kindergarten through 5th grade are invited to participate.  For more information visit http://bce.slvusd.org/student-activities/science-fair or contact our wonderful science teacher Patty Hayes (phayes@slvusd.org).  Completed application forms can be returned to the office by December 16.

Canned Food Drive ~ The Valley Christmas Project Canned Food Drive is up and running.  Please send in your non-perishable donations to help support families in our community.  This is a great opportunity for our children to discover the warm feeling we receive when we do good things for others.

BCE's Holiday Gift Shift ~ Please mark your calendar for the annual BCE Gift Shift, on Friday December 9, 12:00 - 6:00. We will be collecting gently used toys, books, videos, and video games; however, we do not accept clothing items.  This year we will also have a section with items suitable for children to give to adults.  Donations can be delivered to the office at Boulder Creek Elementary starting the week after Thanksgiving vacation.  We will set up everything on Thursday, December 8.

Lice ~ Help us eradicate the headlice!  I would like to remind families to be checking students at least twice a week for lice.  Good practice is to check after showers when the hair is clean and free of dandruff.  If lice are found please see attached information on treatment procedures.  We will have extra cleaning done in the classrooms over the break and hope to come back to lice-free classes!  While in school I would also like to remind families to report cases to the staff in the front office or directly to the school nurse. This way we can follow up with families and provide the support needed.  Thanks for your patience and diligence in keeping our classrooms lice free!  Please click here to download the Lice Treatment Checklist and click here to find out more about lice, Lice 101.

Family Science Night ~ It was wonderful that so many of you were able to attend our Family Science Night last week.  What a wonderful Parent Club we have to organize such an educational and magical event!  A big shout out and thank you to Mrs. Wilson for attending in my absence.  How lucky we are to have a community that supports our students in so many ways!  Thanks to all.

Quote of the Week (Pride):

"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams.  Live the life you've imagined."

Did you know???

Just by being present at school, your child is learning how to be a good citizen by participating in the school community, learning valuable social skills, and developing a broader worldview.

Wishing you all a wonderful Thanksgiving!

BCE PARENT CLUB EVENT & MEETING REMINDERS:

Thank you!  Family Science Night – What an exciting and fantastic night it was!  Thank you to all of the amazing parent volunteers who made this night happen.  Once again, you put on a night to remember.

Holiday Gift Shift – Our Holiday Gift Shift is right around the corner.  We will be open all day on December 9 for students and parents alike to come in and "shop" for those on your holiday list.  We will accept donations in the office (there will be black bins) of items that you are looking to re-gift to others who might enjoy them.  Adult and children's items are welcome.

BCE Parent Club Facebook Group - BCE Parents Club will be launching it's very own Facebook Group!  We are looking for volunteers who would be interested in sharing the administrative duties of managing a large group like this.  If you are interested please contact Chrissy Dahl at dahl.christine@gmail.com.  Ideally we would like 5-7 administrators to share the approval of posts and content to this wonderful addition to BCE social life!

Parent Club Meeting – Set your calendars for Thursday, December 8.  We will be holding our meeting in the BCE library from 6:30 to 7:30.  All are welcome and childcare is free.  See you there!

Gift Shift – Now is a good time to start going through items in your house and thinking about what might make great donations to our Gift Shift in December.  If you haven't experienced the Gift Shift before, you'll need to know that this event is about families donating used (or sometimes new) items that then get placed lovingly and in an organized fashion in our multi-purpose room on Friday, Dec. 9.  Then students and parents can "shop" (choose things for free) to gift to loved ones on their holiday lists.  All students and parents are welcome to peruse our donated collection and take items for re-gifting.
·
