BCE Bearmail 11/4/16

November 4, 2016

Dear BCE Families,

Fun! ~ I hope you had a chance to make it up to our Halloween parade.  The costumes were amazing, the kids were excited, and the skies were dry!  It made for quite a wonderful morning.

New Drop off Area ~ IMPORTANT REMINDER, please remember that the new drop off area on Laurel is not a place to park your car.  This drop off area is intended to be a place to drop off your student in a safe place while you stay in the car and drive off after they exit the vehicle.

College Awareness Week ~ This week has been College Awareness week across the county.  At BCE we've been wearing college t-shirts and sweatshirts, talking about our alma maters, discussing the prerequisites for jobs our students are interested in, etc.  In elementary school we focus on keeping doors open and creating lifelong learners that will be ready for the jobs and experiences that will be available for them as adults.

Fall Back ~ Don't forget to change your clock this weekend.  It's the end of daylight savings time and we get to move our clocks back and get that hour of sleep back we lost in the spring!

Check It Out! ~ Have you noticed our new bulletin board located outside the office?  We are recognizing all our students who have perfect attendance each month.

BCE Book Fair ~ The Book Fair will take place in our library from 8 am to 5 pm during Family Conference week, 11/14 – 11/18.  Our book fairs are the only source of funding available to our library and all profits go to purchase new books and library equipment for BCE students.  When you're visiting campus for your student's conference, consider stopping by for a look and perhaps even some holiday shopping!

Canned Food Drive ~ The Valley Christmas Project Canned Food Drive is up and running.  Please send in your non-perishable donations to help support families in our community.  This is a great opportunity for our children to discover the good feeling we receive when we do good things for others.

SLV Rotary Club ~ We want to send out a big THANK YOU! to our own SLV Rotary Club.  Last week was their annual presentation of dictionaries to our 4th graders.  The students loved receiving the dictionaries and it was fun to hear the comments from the 5th graders who remembered the day the received their dictionary and are still using them.

Lost and Found ~ As the weather has cooled down we've had an explosion of lost and found apparel.  Please come by to see if your student's missing outerwear may still be here at school. Thank you!

Important Calendar Information ~ Just a reminder that Family Conferences are the week of November 14 – 18 and we will be on a minimum day schedule.  Kindergarten will be dismissed at 11:50, 1st – 3rd will be dismissed at 12:10 and 4th and 5th graders will be dismissed at 12:15.

Did you know???

Students can fall behind if they miss a day or two every few weeks.

Thank you for supporting your student by getting them to school and being on time every day!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

Family Science Night – Hooray!  The Family Science Night is less than a week away!  The SJ Children's Discovery Museum presents: SUPER POWERS Thursday, November 10th at 6:30 pm in the BCE MP Room.  Join us and discover the science secrets behind your superhero's special powers!  We still need 3 volunteers to run the exhibits.  CDM will provide a 45 minute training at 5:30 pm.  Please contact Nicole at or call 331-3431.
Book Fair – Stop by the BCE library Monday, November 14 through Friday, November 18 from 8 am to 5 pm for the Fall Book Fair.  There will be amazing books for children and adults, fun writing materials, posters, and other novelties!  Now is a great time to be thinking about Christmas items, and the book fair is a fabulous place to make anyone on your list happy.
Family Dinner Night – Mark your calendars for Tuesday, November 15 for a dinner date with Los Amigos Taqueria.  Grab a taco and support BCE! Your tummy with thank you and so will we.
Gift Shift – Now is a good time to start going through items in your house and thinking about what might make great donations to our Gift Shift in December.  If you haven't experienced the Gift Shift before, you'll need to know that this event is about families donating used (or sometimes new) items that then get placed lovingly and in an organized fashion in our multi-purpose room on Friday, Dec. 9.  Then students and parents can "shop" (choose things for free) to gift to loved ones on their holiday lists.  All students and parents are welcome to peruse our donated collection and take items for re-gifting.
