Dear BCE Families,
Science Fair ~ What a delight it was to tour our Science Fair yesterday! I was so proud of all the students who participated. I witnessed high levels of questioning, organization and perseverance. I appreciated the attention to detail and the pride that was evident in their projects. Congratulations to all our participants and good luck to our students who will advance to the county competition. A BIG thank you to Jacquie Spracklen, Karen Hoogner, and all our adult volunteers. We couldn't do it without you!
Valentine's Day ~ As February rolls in we start thinking about Valentine's Day, please remember that if your student brings Valentine cards for one student in the class, they need to bring cards for all the students in their class. Valentine's Day is not a day for hurt feelings and hearts.
Pennies for Patients ~ Starting next week, BCE students will have the opportunity to participate in our annual Pennies for Patients drive which benefits the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The drive will run from Feb. 5 - 16. Each student will be bringing a collection box home this week and encouraged to fund raise for cancer patients. Thank you for your support. This fundraiser is a wonderful opportunity for students to see how small contributions joined together can make a generous donation to an organization that makes a difference in peoples lives.

Absences ~ If your student will be absent from school due to illness, or for any other reason, please call the BCE Attendance Line at 338-2887. Please call every day until your student returns and let us know how their recovery is going.

Did you know???
California law states that children under 8 must be properly buckled into a car seat or booster seat in the back seat. Children 8 or older, or those that are 4' 9" may use the vehicle's safety belt if it fits properly.

Staff and students shall refrain from bringing furred or feathered animals, stuffed toys that may collect dust mites, scented candles, incense or air fresheners and from using perfume or cologne, scented hair spray, nail polish or nail polish remover that are not fragrance-free in classrooms or other enclosed areas or buildings.
BCE PARENT CLUB EVENT & MEETING REMINDERS:
Join us for dinner and a meeting! The next Family Dinner Night is Thursday, February 8, 4-9 PM at Los Amigos Taqueria and will benefit the 2nd grade. After dinner come to our February Parent Club meeting, 6-8 PM in the BCE library. Babysitting is always available. Come join in the discussion and see how you can help!
There are a lot of volunteer opportunities for our big events in the Spring including the walk-jog-a-thon, silent auction and Carnival! Carnival is not possible without a lot of helping hands. We all know "many hands make for light work." We are currently looking for a Carnival co-chairs, concession team leader, and many other important yet smaller positions. If you think you may be interested in helping to plan this event contact us right away. This is our most widely attended event and will take place Saturday, May 12, 2018, 10AM-3PM. The Family Valentine's Dance will be held Friday, February 16th from 6-8 pm in the MP Room. Flyers will be coming home, but please note the adjusted time. This is a family dance, all children who attend BCE and their families are invited. There will be musical chairs, photo ops, and family-friendly fun. There will also be a food truck!
You can see from the February monthly calendar (handout should have been sent home with you yesterday or today) the Parents Club have a lot of events happening this month. One of them is the Principal's Meet and Greet. If you missed the one in the fall, are new to BCE, or just want to find out what is happening at BCE, please arrange to come to this event. It is short and right after drop off for your convenience. Refreshments and Jenna Sue's coffee cake will be served! Thursday, February 15th, 8:35-9:35 a.m.
Another fun event that is included on the monthly calendar is a new fundraiser that includes a sweet treat. Cutesy Cupcake in Scotts Valley has generously offered to host a fundraiser on February 21, 2018, from 3-7PM and donate 20% of profits to our school. You must mention BCE or bring the flier in with you. The flier will come home February 20 so that you don't lose it over the long weekend.
Please note that Family Movie Night has been moved to March 9th! Our master calendar had said February 9th but we had to push it back a month. We will be showing Coco! Bring a pillow and a blanket and get cozy with your friends and family! Thanks for your understanding with the schedule change.
Last but not least, Staff Appreciation Week is the last week in February. If you have a class Parents Club Representative (please figure out who yours is or email us to find out) they will be coordinating the teacher appreciation events in your classroom that week. A daily calendar of these individual tokens of appreciation will be coming home mid-month.
Box tops: The next due date for box tops is Friday February 9, 2018.
Facebook: If you are on Facebook and haven't joined our Facebook group then sign-up by sending an email to bcepc.execs@gmail.com This is a private group so members must be invited and have a student enrolled at BCE. It is a great forum to ask questions, receive announcements and stay involved.
