BCE Bearmail 8/31/18

August 31, 2018

Dear BCE Families,

Reminder ~ There is no school on Monday, September 3 in recognition of Labor Day.  Enjoy your 3-day weekend.

Thank You ~ I want to send a big THANK YOU to our students, families and staff for making our classroom reorganizations this week go as smoothly as it did.  Your positive attitudes and support were the key to a successful week.

Fire Drill ~ We had our first fire drill today and it was a success!  Our BCE Bears demonstrated the BCE Way by being Safe, Respectful and Responsible!  Ask your students about the fire drill and where their class lines up when they leave the classroom.

Back to School Night ~ Please join us on Thursday evening for our annual Back to School Night.  Remember this is an adult only evening.

            6:00 – 6:30 = Grades 3, 4, 5 & SDC

            6:40  - 6:55 = Welcome Families (Multi Purpose Room)

            7:00 – 7:30 = Grades TK, K, 1 & 2

Your students' amazing teachers are working hard to create an informative presentation for you.  I hope to see you all there!

Attendance ~ Please click here to read a letter about the importance of regular school attendance.

Volunteer Sign-ups ~ Staff from the District Office will be at BCE on Thursday, September 6 (Back to School Night), from 5-7 pm, and again on Thursday, September 13 from 11:30-1:30 to help volunteers with the volunteer process, including obtaining the Live Scan forms and completing a TB test assessment.  There is no TB test involved, just a form assessing need for a test.  Also, we do not need to see your driver's license or car insurance at that time.  That information will be requested by the classroom teacher.

Safety ~ Please help us keep our kids safe.  Unless you have a handicap placard, please do not drive onto campus.  Additionally, please do not walk across the parking lot and most importantly, please listen to and follow the directions of our crossing guards. We are all working together to keep our students safe and provide a good example for them.

Thank you for your cooperation in this very important matter.

Current Student Information ~ It's been a great first two weeks of school.  Thank you for updating your student's information in PowerSchool.  It's important that we have up-to-date contact and medical information for each student.  If you have not updated your student's registration information for the 2018-19 school year, please go to our District website (slvusd.org) and follow the links for student registration.  Having current, up-to-date information is essential for us to be able to contact you to support your student or reach you in case of an emergency.

The BCE Way:  BE RESPECTFUL, BE SAFE, BE RESPONSIBLE

This is a reminder that San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District policy, as set by the Board of Trustees, declares that we are a fragrant-neutral district. As we continue to have assemblies and other site-based activities and meetings, please take care to follow the policies below for the sake of the students and members of our community who are highly allergic to fragrances and scents.

The SLVUSD Board of Trustees adopted a California School Board Association policy to make all district classrooms and offices fragrant neutral. BCE has parents, students, and community members with respiratory issues who can have negative reactions to fragrances. Please take care to follow the policy while on campus.

Staff and students shall refrain from bringing furred or feathered animals, stuffed toys that may collect dust mites, scented candles, incense or air fresheners and from using perfume or cologne, scented hair spray, nail polish or nail polish remover that are not fragrance-free in classrooms or other enclosed areas or buildings.

BCE PARENT CLUB EVENT & MEETING REMINDERS:

Welcome new and returning families!  Did you know that you are all a part of the BCE Parent Club just by having a student enrolled at this school?  That doesn't mean you have to come to every meeting or help with every event.  The Parent Club mission is twofold:  first and foremost, we provide fun family events throughout the school year. Secondly, we are dedicated to fundraising to help provide financial support to programs such as Learning Garden and Art Masterpiece. You can be involved with as many programs and events as you like. Our annual Calendar will be distributed in September in order to help you plan to be a part of the events happening throughout the school year.

Our meetings usually take place on the second Thursday of the month from 6-8 PM. Our next meeting will be Thursday, September 13th in the MP Room. Can't make it to a meeting? That's okay! There are so many events you can be a part of! Our Fall fundraiser is the Drive for School Raffle Tickets. 100% of profits go to the school! It is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year. Our September family event is the Ice Cream Social. Details to come at Back To School Night and future Bearmails.

If you have a question and would like to get in touch with our Board members please e-mail us at bcepc.execs@gmail.com. We also have a private Facebook group. Contact us if you would like to be added.

If you haven't joined our Facebook Group, and would like to, you can sign-up by sending an email to bcepc.execs@gmail.com.  This is a private group so members must be invited and have a student enrolled at BCE.  It is a great forum to ask questions, receive announcements and stay involved.

This link is provided as a courtesy for parents & students, by the San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District, to receive information of current local events and opportunities.  The San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District does not sponsor or endorse any of the organizations or events that are located here.

The Flyer Process for San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District is posted on the "home" page of the District website at www.slvusd.org.   The flyers and/or blurbs are no longer inserted into the school newsletters or distributed to the children.  The District is making an effort to reduce the amount of paper that is sent home with your child(ren) and is working together to streamline the newsletter so that you read about the most important information regarding your child's school.  The District has created a website where all of the approved flyers will be posted (Community Opportunity).
