BCE Bearmail 9/7/18

September 7, 2018

Dear BCE Families,

Thank You! ~ What a wonderful Back to School Night!  Thank you for coming out and supporting your students.  The connection and communication that happens between home and school is so vitally important to your student's success.  Our teachers spent many hours putting together their presentations and materials for you and I know they appreciated seeing you here last night. We are looking forward to continuing our important work together and as a school community supporting the great students of BCE.  THANK YOU!

Ice Cream! ~ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!  I hope to see many of you next Friday, September 14, between 5 and 7 pm for our annual Ice Cream Social.  Remember the first scoop is free for all BCE students!

Parking ~ Thank you for not coming onto campus and parking.  Please be respectful of our staff parking on Redwood Avenue also.  There is no public parking there - all spaces are for staff.

School Pictures ~ All students will have their picture taken on Tuesday, September 11,  both individually, and with their class.  There is no obligation to purchase photographs, but if you would like to you can send in payment with your student or preorder online at mylifetouch.com and use the ID:  BY418062Q0.

Honor and Support ~ The SLV football program will have a moment of silence before the national anthem of Saturday's game in honor of our SLVE student who passed away tragically this weekend.

The football team will also be donating all of the profits from the Snack Bar on Saturday to the family.  The profits generally run from $1500 to $2000.  Additionally, there will be a straight donation bucket available at the snack bar. Thank you for your support.

Site Council ~ Our Site Council plays an important role at BCE. The school site council is a group of teachers, parents, classified employees, that works with the principal to develop, review and evaluate school improvement programs and school budgets.

If you are interested in serving on the Site Council for the 2018-19 school year, please complete the attached application ( link is at the bottom of the page) and return it to Margaret Zavaroni in our office no later than next Friday, September 21st.

Attendance Letter ~ Please click here to read a letter about the importance about attendance from Judge Morse of the Superior Court of California.

The BCE Way:  BE RESPECTFUL, BE SAFE, BE RESPONSIBLE

This is a reminder that San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District policy, as set by the Board of Trustees, declares that we are a fragrant-neutral district. As we continue to have assemblies and other site-based activities and meetings, please take care to follow the policies below for the sake of the students and members of our community who are highly allergic to fragrances and scents.

The SLVUSD Board of Trustees adopted a California School Board Association policy to make all district classrooms and offices fragrant neutral. BCE has parents, students, and community members with respiratory issues who can have negative reactions to fragrances. Please take care to follow the policy while on campus.

Staff and students shall refrain from bringing furred or feathered animals, stuffed toys that may collect dust mites, scented candles, incense or air fresheners and from using perfume or cologne, scented hair spray, nail polish or nail polish remover that are not fragrance-free in classrooms or other enclosed areas or buildings.

BCE PARENT CLUB EVENT & MEETING REMINDERS:

Fun events are coming up this month- check your green monthly calendar! First is  Drive For Schools raffle tickets sales will begin September 13 and spans over several weeks. You could win a car or dozens of other prizes; we have BCE winners every year! We do need volunteers to make this fundraiser a success. 100% of profits go to the school which means it  is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year. Please e-mail us at bcepc.execs@gmail.com if you can host a table before or after school for ticket sales. We will have a table selling tickets at Ice Cream Social.

Our next Parents Club meeting is Thursday, September 13, 6-8 PM in the MP Room. Babysitting and light snacks available. Come be a part of the discussion and hear more about our events and volunteer opportunities this year! We love to hear your thoughts, questions and concerns. If you signed up to be a Parents Club Representative, this is a great meeting for you to get oriented. See you there.

The family event this month is the Ice Cream Social. This is 5-7 PM on Friday, September 14 on the BCE uppers. This is an all ages family event. 5th graders scoop ice cream from Marianne's and the first scoop is free for BCE students! Scoops for non-students and all additional scoops are 50 cents each. Profits go towards the 5th grade science camp.

Spiritwear goes on sale this month! Our Spiritwear has the Boulder Creek Elementary paw logo on it and comes in gray or blue shades. We offer adult and child hoodies, zip up sweatshirts, hats, t-shirts and long- sleeve shirts. Order forms will go out this month. We will have a table with Spiritwear at the Ice Cream Social.  If you have any questions please e-mail us at bcepc.execs@gmail.com

Two easy things you can do to participate in fundraisers (with little time commitment) are to collect box tops and shop Amazon Smiles. A red handout regarding box tops went out this week with a collection sheet as well as a contact person, Amber Jones. Simply cut and collect box tops and turn them in each month. The class who collects the most at the end of the month will win a prize for that month!

If you shop Amazon then you can help earn money for the school by shopping on smile.amazon.com and choose Boulder Creek Elementary Parents Club as your beneficiary. Then every time you shop a small amount goes to our school. You must shop Amazon Smiles for the school to benefit from your Amazon order. It is not applicable from the phone app.

The awesome thing about both box tops and Amazon is you do not have to have a student at BCE in order for us to profit. Recruit family and friends who can collect box tops for your child and ask friends with Amazon accounts to designate Boulder Creek Elementary as their beneficiary at smile.amazon.com.
