BCE Bearmail 9/13/13

September 13, 2013

Dear BCE Families,

Thank you so much for getting your students to school, and on time, every day!  There is a high correlation between student achievement and attendance.  Last year 20% of our students were absent for ten or more days and 36% of our students were tardy ten or more days. Additionally, we have many students who lose important instructional time when they leave school early.   As you can see that adds up to a lot of missed instructional time.  Good attendance is important for your student's success - thank you for supporting them!

Does your child need insurance?  A United Way Health Care Outreach Worker can offer you free assistance in filling out an application for children's health care insurance plans.  For more information, please visit the Community Opportunities website at https://sites.google.com/a/slvusd.org/community-link/ - look under the Parent Resources tab, the flyer is titled:  Health Insurance Flyer.

Please be aware that ALL District sites are considered CLOSED between Sunset and Sunrise.  Unauthorized personnel are NOT permitted on District school sites between Sunset and Sunrise.   This will be enforced by District Security as well as the local Sheriff's Department.

Please share this information with all of the members in your household.  This is to ensure the security of our facilities and the safety of our staff and students.  Thank you for your assistance.

I'm looking forward to seeing many of you next Thursday at our annual Back to School Night.  Our teachers are working hard putting together presentations to inform you about the great year of learning ahead for our BCE Bears!  Please do not bring your children to Back-to-School Night – there will be no child care.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
