BCE Bearmail 2/6/15

February 6, 2015

Dear BCE Families,

Three day weekend ~ Just a reminder that this is the first of two three day weekends.  There will be no school Monday as we celebrate Lincoln's birthday.

Rain! ~ What a delight to have some rain today!  I hope the long weekend brings more showers for us and snow to the mountains.

Valentine's Day ~ As February rolls in we start thinking about Valentine's Day.  Please remember that if your student brings Valentine cards for 1 student in the class, they need to bring cards for all the students in their class.  Valentine's Day is not a day for hurt feelings and hearts.

Science Fair ~ What a delight it was to tour our Science Fair yesterday!  I was so proud of all the students who participated.  I witnessed high levels of questioning, organization and perseverance.  I appreciated the attention to detail and the pride that was evident in their projects. Congratulations to all our participants and good luck to our students who will advance to the county competition.

Flower Power ~ Thank you for supporting BCE and our 5th grade students as they prepare for Science Camp.  You can purchase bulbs through this online fundraiser by going to:  http://www.flowerpowerfundraising.com/i/t/452111/LJlGJv69uAXD  Orders are due by February 17th.

Retirement ~ One of our BCE family members has decided it's time to retire after many years of service in our District.  Our night custodian, Mr. Mark, is enjoying some extra time with his family. We will miss him and wish him well.

Up Coming Dates to Remember

  • Monday 2/9 = No School (Lincoln's Birthday)
  • Wednesday 2/11 = Family Dinner Night (Red Pearl)
  • Thursday 2/12 = Parent Club Meeting, 6:30 in the library
  • Monday 2/16 = No School (Presidents Day)
  • Friday 2/20 = Family Movie Night
  • Thursday 2/26 = BCE Talent Show

Attendance Facts:

Of the 18 school days we had in January, 231 students (almost 43%) lost learning time due to arriving late or leaving early.  Of those 231 students, 72 lost instruction time on two to six different days.

Thank you for supporting your student by getting them to school every day and on time!

Safety Tip of the Week:

California law states that children under 8 must be properly buckled into a car seat or booster seat in the back seat.  Children 8 or older, or those that are 4'9" may use the vehicles safety belt if it fits properly.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

BCE PARENT CLUB EVENT & MEETING REMINDERS:

Family Dinner Night – The Red Pearl is hosting a Family Dinner Night this Wednesday, February 11th from 4pm to 9pm.  20% of the night's proceeds will benefit the 2nd grade classes!!  So, come on down and get some delicious food.  You know you don't want to cook on Wed. night anyway!

Parents Club Meeting – We'll see you this Thursday, February 12th in the Library at 6:30pm.  Childcare is always provided!  We would love to hear your ideas and have you share in the decisions that affect our organization.

Family Movie Night – As you wish!  The Family Movie Night is back!  You and your family are invited to spend an enchanting evening on Friday, February 20th at BCE.  The Princess Bride will be showing and popcorn will be flowing.  As always, this is a free event!

Staff Appreciation Week – Staff Appreciation Week is March 2nd – 6th.  We have such an amazing staff at BCE and we would like them to know how much we appreciate them.  We would like to have at least one parent from each class be a representative for this event.  Please email bcepc.execs@gmail.com as soon as you can, and let us know that you would like to be that parent.  It's a small job, but it has a huge impact.

Science Fair – Wow!  Great job to all of our BCE scientists who participated in the Science Fair this year!  Hopefully you were able to make it over to the multi-purpose room to check out the hard work and amazing learning displayed in their projects.
