BCE Bearmail 9/11/15

September 11, 2015

Dear BCE Families,

Thank You! ~ I appreciate your flexibility as our release times shifted on Thursday and Friday and our Back to School Night was postponed until next week.  Keeping our kids safe is our number one priority and thanks to your support we were able to do just that!

Contact Information ~ Thank you as well for making sure we have current contact information (home, cell and work phone numbers, email addresses, home addresses, etc.) for not only you, but also for any additional people that may be picking up your student.

If the weather predictions are accurate, we may be in for a rough winter.  Having current numbers and access to voicemail that is not full is critical.  Thank You.

Back to School Night ~ Please join us on Wednesday evening, September 16, for our annual Back to School Night.  Remember this is an adult only evening.

            6:00 – 6:30 = Grades K, 1, 2 & 3

            6:40  - 6:55 = Welcome Families (Multi Purpose Room)

            7:00 – 7:30 = Grades 4, 5 & SDC

*From 5:30 – 6:00 in Room 26 our music teacher, Carey Liston, will be presenting information about band to our 5th grade families.  Please plan on attending if your 5th grade student is interested in our after school band program.

Your students' amazing teachers are working hard to create an informative presentation for you.  I hope to see you all there!

CAASP Test Results ~ On Wednesday the State Superintendent of Public Instruction released results from the 2014-2015 school year California Assessment Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) test.

The public has access to the 2014-2015 CAASPP Reports on the California Department of Education CAASPP Reporting website at http://caaspp.cde.ca.gov/. The website will display the statewide, county, district and school level CAASPP reports for the spring 2015.

Individual Student Reports will be mailed to you from the San Lorenzo Valley District Office when we receive them in the next several weeks.

Attached, please find a letter from our Assistant Superintendent, Debbie Bodenheimer,  with additional information regarding the CAASP results

Site Council ~ Our Site Council plays an important role at BCE. The school site council is a group of teachers, parents, classified employees, that works with the principal to develop, review and evaluate school improvement programs and school budgets.

If you are interested in serving on the Site Council for the 2015-16 school year, please complete the attached application and return it to Margaret Zavaroni in our office no later than next Friday, September 18th.

Did you know???

According to Common Sense Media, studies have shown a link between heavy media use and issues such as obesity, lack of sleep, academic challenges, aggression, and other behavior difficulties. The reality is that most families will go through periods of heavy and light media use, but, so long as there's a balance, kids should be just fine.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

BCE PARENT CLUB EVENT & MEETING REMINDERS:

Family Dinner Night and KaraokeWow! What an amazing way to start off the school year.  Thank you for coming out to Boulder Creek Pizza and Pub and supporting our 5th grade classes while enjoying pizza and quality entertainment.  We would like to send out a special THANK YOU to Justin for once again sponsoring this event and being a huge supporter of BCE.

Coming up:

First Parent Club Meeting – Our first meeting of the school year is coming up and it's going to be rockin'!!  You won't want to miss the awesomeness this Thursday, September 17th at 6:30 pm in the multi-purpose room.  We will vote on the calendar and budget.  Please bring your ideas and questions.  Childcare will be provided at this scent-free meeting.

Drive For Schools – Our only fall fundraiser this year will kick off Thursday, September 17th.  The Drive for Schools program is one of the best ways to support BCE.  100% of the sale of tickets goes straight to the programs and supplies we desperately need at BCE.  Purchasing a ticket or a booklet of tickets is like giving money directly to the school except you also get a chance to win a car or $25,000 cash!  Look in next week's folders for fliers on how you can order tickets, or stop by the BC Pharmacy, visit our booth at the Harvest Festival and the Ice Cream Social, catch us in front of Johnnie's on designated days, or just stop into the school office.  Somebody is going to win the grand prize; it might as well be you!!!!
