BCE Bearmail 9/18/15

September 18, 2015

Dear BCE Families,

Thank You! ~ What a wonderful Back to School Night!  Thank you for coming out and supporting your students.  The connection and communication that happens between home and school is so important to your student's success.  The teachers spent many hours putting together their presentations and materials for you and I know they appreciated seeing you here on Wednesday. We are looking forward to continuing our important work together and as a school community supporting the great students of BCE.  THANK YOU!

Great Evening! ~ It was fantastic to see so many of you at the first Parent Club meeting of the year last night!  We have the most amazing Parent Club here at BCE and I love that there are such a variety of ways for parents to be involved.   Our Parent Club provides so much for our school (field trips, school supplies, assemblies, technology, umbrellas for extra shade, etc.). Thank you for all you do and for all the support you provide the students of BCE.

CAASP Test Results ~ Last Wednesday the State Superintendent of Public Instruction released results from the 2014-2015 school year California Assessment Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) test.

The public has access to the 2014-2015 CAASPP Reports on the California Department of Education CAASPP Reporting website at http://caaspp.cde.ca.gov/. The website will display the statewide, county, district and school level CAASPP reports for the spring 2015.

Individual Student Reports will be mailed to you from the San Lorenzo Valley District Office when we receive them in the next couple of weeks.

Attached, please find a letter from our Assistant Superintendent, Debbie Bodenheimer, with additional information regarding the CAASP results.

Did you know???

Thank you so much for getting your students to school, and on time, every day!  There is a high correlation between student achievement and attendance.  Last year almost 20% of our students were absent for ten or more days and approximately 35% of our students were tardy ten or more days. Additionally, we have many students who lose important instructional time when they leave school early.   As you can see that adds up to a lot of missed instructional time.  Good attendance is important for your student's success.  Thank you for supporting them!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

The BCE Way:  BE RESPECTFUL, BE SAFE, BE RESPONSIBLE

BCE PARENT CLUB EVENT & MEETING REMINDERS:

First Parents Club Meeting – We had a great first meeting last night, meeting up with some new faces as well as familiar ones.  We planned our year's events, approved the year's Parents Club calendar, talked about volunteer opportunities, and heard important school information from Mrs. Fosburgh.  Our next meeting will be on Thursday, October 8th and we will discuss our budget as well as other items.

Coming up:

Drive For Schools – The Drive For Schools fundraiser is officially here, and we couldn't be more excited!  Someone from this area is going to win the big prize and it might as well be YOU!!  The Drive for Schools program is one of the best ways to support BCE. 100% of the sale of tickets goes straight to the programs and supplies we desperately need at BCE.  Purchasing a ticket or a booklet of tickets is like giving money directly to the school except you also get a chance to win a car or $25,000 cash! Look in next week's folders for fliers on how you can order tickets, or stop by the BC Pharmacy, visit our booth at the Harvest Festival and the Ice Cream Social, catch us in front of Johnnie's on designated days, or just stop into the school office.  If you would like to opt out of this fall fundraiser, look towards the bottom of your flier in order to check that option.

Classroom Helpers – Each teacher had a volunteer sign-up sheet during Back to School Night.  There were volunteer positions for an Art Masterpiece parent, a Learning Garden parent, a Parents Club Rep (helper for Staff Appreciation Week), and a yearbook parent.  Please consider filling any position that was left empty.  Without volunteers, our students don't get to enjoy these wonderful programs.  Thank you for your consideration.

Ice Cream Social – The much-anticipated Ice Cream Social is coming back to BCE on October 2nd from 5pm to 7pm.  You will not want to miss this social event of the season.  Our amazing 5th graders will be serving up a delicious free scoop to all current BCE students.  Additional scoops are 50¢.
