BCE Bearmail 3/4/16

March 4, 2016

Dear BCE Families,

Thank You! ~ On behalf of our entire staff I want to thank our Parent Club and all the families that participated in making Staff Appreciation week so special for us.  The decorated classrooms doors reminded the teachers every morning as they arrived that they were entering a room where the families appreciated and supported them.  The daily treats were enjoyed by the entire staff and the luncheon was above and beyond!  Additionally, there were flowers, cards and gifts that surprised and delighted many staff members.  BCE is such a special place.  Thank you for this outpouring of love and support, it means so much to all of us!  We are so very lucky to be working with such amazing students and families.

Spring Pictures ~ Spring Pictures will take place on Tuesday here at BCE.  All students will get their picture taken and there is no need to pay for pictures unless you decide to buy them after you see the proof.

Need Kindergarten? ~ Kindergarten registration for Fall 2016 has begun!  Visit Alma in the BCE office to find out more information and sign up for a spot to attend one of our three Kindergarten registration days and optional tours. Tours will take place at 9 am on March 15th, April 14th, and May 27th.  Please call Alma at 338-6413 or stop by the office to reserve your spot.

Children must be five years old by August 31st in order to enroll in Kindergarten.  If your student has a September, October or November birthday you might be interested in our Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program at the Ludlow Center in Felton.  For more information you can call 335-4475.

Tax Credit ~ We have been asked to share this valuable web site with BCE families:

Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Information from Tom Torlakson, State Superintendent of Schools.

The CalEITC4Me Web site at http://caleitc4me.org/get-it/ has valuable information about the EITC, including online tools for helping to determine eligibility and guidance regarding where people can file their taxes for free.

Important Information ~ Please read the attached letter from our Superintendent Dr. Bruton.  It contains important information of a legal case and its connected consequences regarding confidential student data.

Need ~ We are in need of children's pants.  We like to keep a supply of children's pants in the office in case of accidents or the occasional split seam.  Elastic or drawstring waists are best, but anything will work.  If your student has bottoms that they've outgrown, we'd appreciate the donation.  Thank you!

Math Night ~ Thank you to our own Ms. Ebrahimian who along with Ms. Winters and Ms. Meyers from SLE provided a wonderful Family Education evening for our District.  Their presentation on Helping Your Student With Their Math Homework was very well received and attended and I believe they are working on a follow up workshop.

Family Art Night ~ Many thanks also to Ms. Egbert who, in addition to coordinating our Family Art Night, wrote the grant that made it all possible! It was a wonderful evening full of terrific art activities.  I look forward to making this an annual event.  In addition to Ms. Egbert I want to thank our teachers who volunteered to help in the different classrooms, our wonderful BCE Parent Club who provided not only volunteers, but dinner too (!) and the artists working with the Arts Council of Santa Cruz County.

Did you know???

Lessons that our teachers create and present in class cannot be duplicated by completing worksheets or pages in a textbook.  When your student misses time from class they are not receiving the quality experience they have with our outstanding staff.

Thank you for supporting your student by getting them to school every day and on time!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
