BCE Bearmail 4/21/17 - Family Art Night TONIGHT!!!

April 21, 2017

Dear BCE Families,

TONIGHT ~ I hope many of you will be able to join us TONIGHT for Family Art Night at BCE.  The fun will start at 5:15 pm in the MP room with FREE pizza!!!  The art rotations (drumming, storytelling, dance and visual arts) will begin at approximately 5:45 pm.

Act of Kindness ~ Earlier this week a Boulder Creek resident wanted to do a good deed.  He went into the Student Nutrition Service and paid off the balances for all accounts that had a negative balance.  Thanks to his donation of $1,389.65, none of the students in the SLVUSD owes money on their meal card!

Many thank to this generous community member; you've made a difference in the life of many of our families and demonstrated how we can "pay it forward" Thank you!

Reminder ~ Unless you have a handicap placard, please do not drive on campus to drop off or pick up students. Thank you for keeping our students and staff members safe!

Follow up ~ A BCE student, whilst attending an after-school program, fainted during what he described as a game involving holding his breath.  All staff members have been made aware of this event and teachers have discussed with their students (in a grade level appropriate way) the importance being safe and the danger of holding your breath for an extended period of time.  Thank you for supporting us by reinforcing safe play!

Yearbook ~ The deadline to order the 2016-2017 BCE Yearbook is approach fast, next Friday, April 28!!!!  Pick up your order form in the office.

Carnival ~ Yes, it is right around the corner!!  Saturday May 13 from 10:30 - 3:30.  Super fun games, inflatables, silent auction, music, cake walk, arts and crafts,  face painting and so much more!   Since  this is the largest event of the year, you can help out by volunteering for a 2 hour shift and raise money for BCE...all proceeds go directly to help our students prosper at BCE!
Contact Laurel Johnson, aquahealmom@gmail.com or Tammy Schultz for volunteering information all the bcepc.execs@gmail.com.   We look forward to seeing you there!!

VAPA Showcase ~ SLVUSD will be having a VAPA (Visual and Performing Arts) Showcase at SLVHS on Saturday, May 6 from 12 to 4 pm. This will be a free event to show off all of the wonderful work done by our SLV students this year.

Please join us, and please spread the word to parents and community members. Please click here to see receive additional information about this fun event and see ways that you can join in on the fun!

Lost and Found ~ We've noticed that when the temperature increases, so does the Lost and Found pile.  Please try to find an opportunity in the next week or so to stop by with your student and you might find a piece or two of missing outerwear.

Feedback ~ As part of the SVLUSD Local Control Accountability Program (LCAP) we need to hear back from our families about the things that are going well for your students and find about the areas where you see room for improvement or innovation.  Please take a moment to participate in this important survey.  The link is below.

Here is the link for the  Parent LCAP Survey.

Please help ~ Please return the form you received asking if your student will be returning to BCE next year.  This information is critical to our staffing plan.  Thank you for your help!

You are Invited! ~ Please join us for a meeting of the San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District's District English Language Advisory Committee (DLAC). The meeting will take place from 6 - 7 pm on Tuesday, April 25 at the SLV High School Library.

Did you know???

I know it sounds like a no-brainer, but if you consistently find yourself running five to ten minutes late every day, start your morning routine 15 minutes earlier.  You'll be modeling for your students the power of making small changes that will lead to positive outcomes.

Thank you for supporting your student by getting them to school every day and on time!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

The BCE Way:  BE RESPECTFUL, BE SAFE, BE RESPONSIBLE

BCE PARENT CLUB EVENT & MEETING REMINDERS:

Family Art Night -  Do not miss Family Art Night tonight!!  There will be free dinner at 5:30 pm in the multi-purpose room.  You'll enjoy pizza and water before heading off promptly at 6 pm for an amazing night of art projects, storytelling, dancing, and drumming.  The party will end at 8 pm, and you'll be dreaming of your good time for months to come.

New Officers needed – It's the time of year when we start looking ahead to next year's Parent Club board.  We have a few officers who will not be running for their positions next year.  We will definitely need a secretary (or two co-secretaries), vice-president (or two vice-presidents), and a treasurer (or two co-treasurers).  We hope you will strongly consider joining this lovely group to support our school!

Silent Auction- DEADLINE EXTENDED to APRIL 28: Classroom Silent Auction Gift Baskets: Thank you to the many generous families who have turned in their donations to the Silent Auction and classroom gift baskets (which will be auctioned off at the Silent Auction during Carnival, May 13). If you haven't turned your donation in, there is still time!  Baskets will be collected Monday but donations may be brought into classrooms or the office anytime next week.  Thank you for your generosity and efforts!  Contact Amber or Chrissy with the Parent Club with any questions: bcepc.execs@gmail.com

Do you know of a business or family member who would like to make a tax deductible donation of items or services to BCE's annual Silent Auction? The Silent Auction is BCE's biggest fundraiser of the year and our school depends on this $.  Please consider making a donation this year by contacting Amber or Chrissy at: bcepc.execs@gmail.com

Do you want to help with Silent Auction on May 13?  Let us know!

Carnival – The event of the year is right around the corner!  BCE's famous Carnival and Silent Auction will be at BCE's upper blacktop.  We will be calling for a large number of volunteers, so please save the date of Saturday, May 13.

Open House BBQ – Attention all 4th grade parents!!  Next year, our babes will be 5th graders and will go off to Science Camp.  The cost can be as much as $275 per student.  The Parents Club offers several events to help lower that cost.  The Open House BBQ on May 18 is one of those events. 100% of the proceeds will go into our children's science camp fund.  So, we'll need all hands on deck to run the Open House BBQ this year.  A letter will go home after break listing the volunteer positions available.  Please fill it out and send it back to your child's teacher as soon as you can.

Yearbook- Calling all photographers!  Do you have great pictures of BCE kids at school events this year?  We are building our final yearbook pages and there is still time to submit pictures of class plays, candids, spirit days, music and band. Create a user name and password and then submit to the Entourage yearbook website at: http://www.entourageyearbooks.com/Login.asp

Need a Yearbook? Order forms are going home again next week. Fill yours out and submit to the office by Friday, April 28.  Please write your child's name on the check.

Facebook- Do you use Facebook?  BCE Parent's Club has launched a Facebook group with over 250 members. Connect with your parent community and be part of important announcements and our online community. Ask a friend to add you or Contact: bcepc.execs@gmail.com with your Facebook username and we'll send you a friend request to get you on board.

The Flyer Process for San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District is posted on the "home" page of the District website at www.slvusd.org.   The flyers and/or blurbs are no longer inserted into the school newsletters or distributed to the children.  The District is making an effort to reduce the amount of paper that is sent home with your child(ren) and is working together to streamline the newsletter so that you read about the most important information regarding your child's school.  The District has created a website where all of the approved flyers will be posted (Community Opportunity).
