March 31, 2017

Dear BCE Families,

Spring Break ~ Just a reminder that spring break is next week and there will be no school.  Please enjoy this extra time with your amazing students and we'll see you back at BCE on Monday April 10!

Walk-Jog-a-thon ~ Our annual BCE Walk-Jog-a-thon was a huge success!  I hope you were able to join in the fun and cheer on our runners.  A BIG thank you to our BCE Parent Club and all the families that helped out and a special shout out to Kat Gafford and crew for organizing this important event.  We couldn't do it with the important support we get from our BCE families. THANK YOU!

Need Kindergarten? ~ Kindergarten registration for fall 2017 opened on March 15.  Visit the BCE office to pick up a registration packet and sign up for a spot to attend one of our two remaining Kindergarten orientations and tours.  Tours will take place at 9 am on April 18 and May 10 (adults only please).  To begin the registration process, please plan on bringing your child's birth certificate, immunization record and proof of address (e.g. utility bill with your name and address).  For more information contact Alma, our Registrar - asteinberg@slvusd.org.

Children must be five years old by September 1 in order to enroll in Kindergarten.  If your student has a September, October or November birthday you might be interested in our Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program.  For more information please call the BCE office at 831-338-6413.

We're looking forward to your student joining our BCE learning community!

Did you know???

Studies have shown a link between heavy media use and issues such as obesity, lack of sleep, academic challenges, aggression, and other behavior difficulties.

Wishing you all a wonderful spring break!

The BCE Way:  BE RESPECTFUL, BE SAFE, BE RESPONSIBLE

BCE PARENT CLUB EVENT & MEETING REMINDERS:

Walk – jog – a – thon – Wow!!  It actually happened, and it was awesome!  Our BCE kids were amazing troopers.  Please turn in your pledges by Friday, April 14.  Of course, we will gladly take pledges after that, but April 14 will be our official deadline in order to calculate our general amount raised.  The Parent Club would like to extend a huge thank you to Kat Gafford and all of the parent volunteers that made this amazing day possible!

Spirit wear is here – Spirit wear is on campus today and will be passed out after break!

Open House BBQ – Attention all 4th grade parents!!  Next year, our babes will be 5th graders and will go off to Science Camp.  The cost can be as much as $275 per student.  The Parents Club offers several events to help lower that cost.  The Open House BBQ on May 18 is one of those events. 100% of the proceeds will go into our children's science camp fund.  So, we'll need all hands on deck to run the Open House BBQ this year.  A letter will go home after break listing the volunteer positions available.  Please fill it out and send it back to your child's teacher as soon as you can.

Upcoming Events:
Wednesday, April 19 – Family Dinner Night at Boulder Creek Pizza and Pub
Friday, April 21 – Family Art Night

Saturday, May 13 – CARNIVAL!!!

Yearbook Link – All picture takers, we need your help!!  If you have any pictures from school-wide events, please share them with us.
The Yearbook committee needs pictures of the Science Fair and any other field trips or school events uploaded to the website.  Watch for the posters as you will be able to purchase your child's yearbook starting next week!
Do you have pictures of BCE's Halloween, Family Science Night or Holiday Sing/Celebrations?
Please upload them to our yearbook website under one of these categories or your child's teacher's name:

Mini Mermaid Running Club (MMRC) – If you love running and have some time to make a difference in the lives of our BCE students, please check out the description below of the MMRC.  Mini Mermaid Running Club (MMRC) is a six week program of self-discovery, confidence-building, and goal-setting for elementary and middle school-aged girls.  Having served over 6000 girls worldwide, we teach girls that the finish line is just the beginning through thoughtful curriculum and training for a 5k that addresses girls' mind, body and spirit.  Through a structured curriculum-based program, MMRC gives girls the tools they need to live a healthier life.

The Flyer Process for San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District is posted on the "home" page of the District website at www.slvusd.org.   The flyers and/or blurbs are no longer inserted into the school newsletters or distributed to the children.  The District is making an effort to reduce the amount of paper that is sent home with your child(ren) and is working together to streamline the newsletter so that you read about the most important information regarding your child's school.  The District has created a website where all of the approved flyers will be posted (Community Opportunity).
