BCE Bearmail 4/28/17

April 28, 2017

Dear BCE Families,

Last Call for Yearbook Orders ~ Our parent club have extended the deadline to Thursday, May 4.  You must turn in your order, together with cash or check, to the office by the end of the day on Thursday to be assured of having a yearbook.

Family Survey ~ It's that time of year again!  Please take a moment to use this link to complete our Family Survey.  The information we receive from the survey guides us in our plans for next school year.  Thank you for your time.

Student Author Fair ~ I hope you can make plans to attend the Student Author Fair at Capitola Mall next Saturday, May 6  from 10 am-3 pm.  Many of our BCE classes will be represented at this fun event and students will have the opportunity to read their original work aloud to an audience.

Carnival Help ~ The BCE Carnival is coming up and as always promises to be lots of fun for everyone.  An event this amazing requires lots of support.  Please see the Parent Club section below to see how you can help support our school community.

Reminder ~ Unless you have a handicap placard, please do not drive on campus to drop off or pick up students. Thank you for keeping our students and staff members safe!

VAPA Showcase ~ SLVUSD will be having a VAPA (Visual and Performing Arts) Showcase at SLVHS on Saturday, May 6 from 12 to 4 pm. This will be a free event to show off all of the wonderful work done by our SLV students this year.

Please join us, and please spread the word to parents and community members. Please click here to see receive additional information about this fun event and see ways that you can join in on the fun!

Lost and Found, Going…Going…Gone! ~ We've noticed how when the temperature increases, so does the Lost and Found pile.  Please try to find an opportunity in the next week or so to stop by with your student and see if you might find a piece or two of missing outerwear.  Items not picked up in the next two weeks will be donated to a local charity.

Early Arrival ~ Just a reminder that there is no yard supervision before 8:10 am.  Please remind your student that if they are on school grounds before 8:10 am, they should wait in the office or have a bite to eat at the Breakfast Club in the MP.

BCE Volunteers ~ I failed to mention last week that on April 18 we had the opportunity to host many of our BCE volunteers at a luncheon in their honor. Unfortunately, many of our dedicated volunteers were not able to make it to the luncheon. I'd like to take this opportunity, on behalf of the staff, to thank those of you that have participated in supporting our kids by volunteering your time and making BCE such a special place to be.  THANK YOU!

Please help ~ Please return the yellow form you received asking if your student will be returning to BCE next year.  This information is critical to our staffing plan.  Thank you for your help!

5th Grade Families ~ Please click here to find out more information about the Incoming Sixth Grade Parent Night to be held on Tuesday, May 9 in the middle school gym.  The evening is designed to inform parents of what SLV middle school offers for students, learn about the curriculum, and have your questions answered.

Spinning Fidgets ~ A new toy has made its way onto campus and they've become such a distraction and source of conflict that we need to ban them for the remainder of the school year.  They are a handheld object that can be spun around while the student is holding it.  They are sometimes called spinners or spinning fidgets.  Thank you for your support in creating an environment conducive to learning for all our students.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Charter Play ~ Students from all of our Charter programs, ages 5-17, will be performing together on May 11 and 12.  They will be presenting "The Little Mermaid: A West Side Story."  It promises to be great fun for all ages.  Please click here for additional information.

Need Kindergarten? ~ Kindergarten registration for fall 2017 opened on March 15.  Visit the BCE office to pick up a registration packet and sign up for a spot to attend one of our two remaining Kindergarten orientations and tours.  The last tour will take place on May 19 (adults only please).  To begin the registration process, please plan on bringing your child's birth certificate, immunization record and proof of address (e.g. utility bill with your name and address).  For more information contact Alma, our Registrar - asteinberg@slvusd.org.

Children must be five years old by September 1 in order to enroll in Kindergarten.  If your student has a September, October or November birthday you might be interested in our Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program.  There will be a TK information presentation for adults only on May 23 at 2 pm.  For more information please call the BCE office at 831-338-6413.

We're looking forward to your student joining our BCE learning community!

After School Supervision ~ Please help provide us provide consistent playground expectations for your students by reminding them that school rules are the same no matter what time of day it is.  Please remind your student that climbing the hills, throwing sticks, or playing in unsafe ways on the play structure is never allowed.  Thank you for supporting your student as they live the BCE Way.

The BCE Way:  BE RESPECTFUL, BE SAFE, BE RESPONSIBLE

BCE PARENT CLUB EVENT & MEETING REMINDERS:

The Amazing Annual BCE Carnival!!! – BCE's famous Carnival and Silent Auction will be Saturday, May 13 from 10:30 to 3:30 on the upper's blacktop.  Please check to see your teacher's assigned booth or inflatable.  There are sign-ups posted by their door.  Then go ahead and sign up for an hour or two to volunteer.  This event means a lot to our children, our school, and our community and we need your help to make it special.  If there is another way you would like to help (BBQ, concessions, cutting fruits and vegetables, setting up, taking down, etc.) please email Tammy Schultz at bcepc.execs@gmail.com to volunteer!!  Thank you all for making this possible!

New Officers needed – It's the time of year when we start looking ahead to next year's Parent Club board.  We have a few officers who will not be running for their positions next year.  We will definitely need a secretary (or two co-secretaries), vice-president (or two vice-presidents), and a treasurer (or two co-treasurers).  We hope you will strongly consider joining this lovely group to support our school!

Silent Auction- DEADLINE EXTENDED to APRIL 28th: Classroom Silent Auction Gift Baskets: Thank you to the many generous families who have turned in their donations to the Silent Auction and classroom gift baskets (which will be auctioned off at the Silent Auction during Carnival, May 13th). If you haven't turned your donation in, there is still time! Baskets will be collected Monday but donations may be brought into classrooms or the office anytime next week. Thank you for your generosity and efforts! Contact Amber or Chrissy with the Parent Club with any questions: bcepc.execs@gmail.com

Do you know of a business or family member who would like to make a tax deductible donation of items or services to BCE's annual Silent Auction? The Silent Auction is BCE's biggest fundraiser of the year and our school depends on this $. Please consider making a donation this year by contacting Amber or Chrissy at: bcepc.execs@gmail.com

Do you want to help with Silent Auction on May 13th? Let us know!

Open House BBQ – Attention all 4th grade parents!!  Next year, our babes will be 5th graders and will go off to Science Camp.  The cost can be as much as $275 per student.  The Parents Club offers several events to help lower that cost.  The Open House BBQ on May 18 is one of those events. 100% of the proceeds will go into our children's science camp fund.  So, we'll need all hands on deck to run the Open House BBQ this year.  A letter will go home after break listing the volunteer positions available.  Please fill it out and send it back to your child's teacher as soon as you can.

Yearbook- Calling all photographers!  Do you have great pictures of BCE kids at school events this year?  We are building our final yearbook pages and there is still time to submit pictures of class plays, candids, spirit days, music and band. Create a user name and password and then submit to the Entourage yearbook website at: http://www.entourageyearbooks.com/Login.asp

The Flyer Process for San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District is posted on the "home" page of the District website at www.slvusd.org.   The flyers and/or blurbs are no longer inserted into the school newsletters or distributed to the children.  The District is making an effort to reduce the amount of paper that is sent home with your child(ren) and is working together to streamline the newsletter so that you read about the most important information regarding your child's school.  The District has created a website where all of the approved flyers will be posted (Community Opportunity).
