BCE Bearmail 9/22/17

September 22, 2017

Dear BCE Families,

Drive for Schools ~ Would you like to win a car or $25,000 and support BCE?  Raffle tickets are $5.00 each or a book of 6 for $25.00.  Tickets will be available in the BCE office from September 14 through October 18. 100% of the proceeds from the raffle tickets support BCE!  Thank you for supporting our students!

Triple P ~ I am excited to let you know that BCE will be hosting three parenting seminars this fall.  Positive Parenting Program (Triple P) is a program of First 5.  All seminars are free of charge and childcare is provided.  BCE has hosted Triple P seminars and groups in the past and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.  Please click here to view the flyer that contains all the details on these wonderful upcoming seminars.

College & Career Readiness ~ As I mentioned at Back to School Night, one of the goals we have as a School District is to make sure all our students are college and career ready.  At BCE we want to support our students to be ready for any future they can dream of!  They don't need to decide in 2nd grade what college they want to go to or what career path they want to follow, but when the time comes we want them to be prepared academically and socially to pursue their goals.

Up Coming Dates to Remember

  • Wednesday 9/27 = Family Dinner Night @ Boulder Creek Pizza & Pub (4-9 pm)

Empathy Quote of the Week :

"The opposite of anger is not calmness, it's empathy"

Did you know???

Our attendance line is available 24 hours a day.  Please call 338-2887 anytime of the day or night if your student is ill and will be absent from school.  A call needs to be made to BCE each day the student is absent, even if they are consecutive.  THANK YOU!

Thank you for supporting your student by getting them to school every day and on time!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

The BCE Way:  BE RESPECTFUL, BE SAFE, BE RESPONSIBLE

BCE PARENT CLUB EVENT & MEETING REMINDERS:

Drive For Schools: This is one of our biggest fundraisers for the school with 100% profits to BCE!  Purchase raffle tickets for a chance at a grand prize of $25,000 or a brand new car. There are dozens of other prizes and we have winners from BCE every year!  Purchase books with 6 tickets for $25.  Tickets are available until October 18. The raffle drawing takes place on October 29 at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.

Family Dinner Night: Mark your calendars for Wednesday September 27, 4 pm to 9 pm, at Boulder Creek Pizza & Pub!  Come enjoy some farm fresh pizza with your school friends, or order take-out to avoid the rush!  20% of the night's proceeds benefit the 5th graders to reduce their cost of going to Science Camp.

Positive Parenting Classes are once again coming to BCE!  Mark your calendars for the first class: The Power of Positive Parenting, Thursday, October 19, from 6-8 pm in the BCE library. Babysitting is provided. Classes are free and can be attended individually or as a set of three. Flyers will be sent home soon.

Parent Club meeting will be on Thursday, October 12 in the BCE library. Please note a new start time!  We will start at 6 PM, rather than 6:30 PM.  Babysitting provided.  Come find out about school events planned for this year, and help us figure out how to spend the $ from last year!

Learning GardenIf you were unable to attend the orientation meeting but want to volunteer then checkout the LG website at:

 https://jacquie6516.wixsite.com/bcegarden

YearbookIf you signed up to help with this year's yearbook but missed their kick-off/orientation meetings you can contact email: bcepc.yearbook@gmail.com to get in touch.

Amazon Smiles: if you haven't signed up then now's the time!  Simply go to www.smile.amazon.com. You do not have to have a student enrolled at BCE to sign-up so spread the word and tell family and friends to sign-up too!  This does not work on the Amazon app on your phone, so order on your phone and then log into your amazon smiles account online to give the school a credit.  Amazon gave over $400 to BCE last year through this program.

Box tops: You can help the school by collecting box tops!  There are drop boxes in every classroom as well as one in the office.  They are collected monthly.  Proceeds go for P.E. equipment.  In the past we have made over $1,000, so start collecting because it really does add up.  Ask your friends and family to help as well!

Facebook: If you are on Facebook and haven't joined our Facebook group then sign-up by sending an e-mail to bcepc.execs@gmail.com  This is a private group so members must be invited and have a student enrolled at BCE.  It is a great forum to ask questions, receive announcements and stay involved.  Find us and like us on Facebook.  Search for Boulder Creek Elementary Parent Club.

Environmental  Effort Parent club is trying to be more green!  In an effort to reduce our carbon footprint we are trying to make 2-sided copies or ½ and ¼ sheets to go home rather than full sheets. Please help us by recycling your papers at home when you are done with them. There are extra copies available in the office of everything we send home if you should need one. Thank you for your help on this.

Special Help:  We are looking for a person to help with maintaining our school website.  Please contact us at bcepc.execs@gmail.com if you, or someone you know, is interested in this volunteer opportunity.

(Are you great with maintaining websites and looking for a stress-free way to help the Parents Club? Please contact us at the email address above to help us get our website back on track!)

The Flyer Process for San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District is posted on the "home" page of the District website at www.slvusd.org.   The flyers and/or blurbs are no longer inserted into the school newsletters or distributed to the children.  The District is making an effort to reduce the amount of paper that is sent home with your child(ren) and is working together to streamline the newsletter so that you read about the most important information regarding your child's school.  The District has created a website where all of the approved flyers will be posted (Community Opportunity).
