BCE Bearmail 11/3/17

November 3, 2017

Dear BCE Families,

Reminder ~ Just a reminder that there will be NO SCHOOL next Friday November 10.  We will be celebrating Veteran's Day and honoring our veterans, past and present, who have served the United States.

Thank You! ~ A great time was had by all at the Ice Cream Social last Friday.  Many thanks to our wonderful BCE Parent Club for hosting this annual family event.  A special shout out to Chrissy Dahl, Kat Gafford and Nicole Berridge for going above and beyond to make the evening a success and of course we wouldn't want to forget the mad scooping skills of our fantastic 5th graders!

Family Science Night ~ Thursday Night is Family Science Night! Please join us on November 9 at 6:30 pm in our Multi-Purpose room.  The San Jose Children's Discovery Museum will be coming to BCE.  The theme of this science night is Amusement Park Science.  These fun interactive experiments and exhibits will bring out your inner adventure seeker!

Many thanks to our wonderful Parent Club for hosting this event and providing our families with this terrific opportunity.

Fun! ~ I hope you had a chance to make it up to our Halloween parade.  The costumes were amazing, the kids were excited, and the skies were dry! It made for quite a wonderful morning.

Fall Back ~ Don't forget to change your clock this weekend.  It's the end of daylight savings time and we get to move our clocks back and get back that hour of sleep we lost in the spring!

BCE Book Fair ~ The Book Fair will take place in our library during Family Conference week, 11/13 – 11/17, hours are 8 am-5 pm Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 8 am -12 pm on Thursday and 8 am – 3 pm on Friday.  Our book fairs are the only source of funding available to our library and all profits go to purchase new books and library equipment for BCE students.  When you're visiting campus for your student's conference, consider stopping by for a look and perhaps even some holiday shopping!

Canned Food Drive ~ The Valley Christmas Project Canned Food Drive is up and running.  Please send in your non-perishable donations to help support families in our community.  This is a great opportunity for our children to discover the good feeling we receive when we do good things for others.

SLV Rotary Club ~ We want to send out a big "THANK YOU!" to our own SLV Rotary Club.  Last week was their annual presentation of dictionaries to our 4th graders.  The students loved receiving the dictionaries and it was fun to hear the comments from the 5th graders who remembered the day they received their dictionary and how they are still using them.

Important Calendar Information ~ Just a reminder that Family Conferences are the week of November 13 – 17 and we will be on a minimum day schedule.  Kindergarten will be dismissed at 11:50, 1st – 3rdwill be dismissed at 12:10 and 4th and 5th graders will be dismissed at 12:15.

Once again our Thanksgiving Break is a week long.  There will be no school the week of November 20 – 24.

Empathy Quote of the Week :

"I believe that stories are incredibly important, possibly in ways we don't understand, in allowing us to make sense of our lives, in allowing us to escape our lives, in giving us empathy and in creating the world that we live in."

                                                            ~ Neil Gaiman

Did you know???

Students can fall behind if they miss a day or two every few weeks.

Thank you for supporting your student by getting them to school every day and on time!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

BCE PARENT CLUB EVENT & MEETING REMINDERS:

Family Science Night: Mark your calendars for the San Jose Children's Discovery Museum Science Night at the BCE MP room on Thursday, November 9, 6-8 pm.  The theme will be Amusement Park Science.  This is always a well-attended, super-fun for the whole family event.  We still need volunteers!  If you are interested in volunteering please email us at: bcepc.execs@gmail.com.

Our next Family Dinner Night will be Wednesday, November 15, 12-3 pm and 5-9 pm Tae's Edo Sushi Grill.

The next Parent Club meeting will be on Thursday, November 16. Come find out about school events planned for this year, and help us figure out how to spend the $ from last year!  We had a great showing this month and are so excited to welcome new faces and opportunities to get involved!

Yearbook: If you have pictures to share from Ice Cream Social, class field trips  or Halloween please do share! Create a log-in and upload your pix to: https://link.entourageyearbooks.com/welcome.asp?action=photos&yearbook_id=22741&guid=   Or email: bcepc.yearbook@gmail.com to get in touch.

Amazon Smiles: If you haven't signed up already just go to www.smile.amazon.com You do not have to have a student enrolled at BCE to sign-up so be sure to tell family and friends to sign-up too!  This does not work on the Amazon app on your phone, so order on your phone and then log into your amazon smiles account online to give the school a credit.  Amazon gave over $400 to BCE last year through this program.

Box tops: You can help the school by collecting box tops!  New collection forms went home this week.  There are drop boxes in every classroom as well as one in the office.  They are collected monthly.  The class with the most box tops this month gets a pizza party!  Proceeds go towards P.E. equipment.  In the past we have made over $1,000, so start collecting because it really does add up.  Ask your friends and family to help as well!

Facebook Group: Join our Facebook group by e-mailing us at bcepc.execs@gmail.com  This is a private group so you must be invited and have a student enrolled in order to be a member. It is a great forum to ask questions, receive announcements and stay involved.
