Dear BCE Families,
Apologies ~ So sorry the Bearmail is late - we have had no internet since Friday morning at 9 am.
THANK YOU ~ Thank you all for your generous donations to the Gift Shift. What a great example of kindness and compassion you are for our students. The smiles on the faces of our students and families and the joy they had when they left with gifts for their loved ones are truly the spirit of the holiday! Thank you so very much to Kaytie Booth and her team for all their hard work and for keeping this BCE tradition alive and supporting our families.
Hot Off the Press! ~ Here is your next installment in a series of articles written especially for SLVUSD by our wonderful Mental Health Counselor, Jen Sims. Her articles address subjects that support the growth and well being of our students and all of us that support our BCE Bears. Please click here to read Jen's article on self-awareness, toxic shame and empathy.
Support ~ Thank you for your support as we maneuver our way through the holiday season. Holidays can be an amazing and magical time of the year and they can also be tiring and stressful. With two weeks of school left, please keep your students' routine to as close to normal as possible, make sure they have plenty of sleep, and their diet is healthy and low in sugar. Our amazing teachers still have a lot of learning planned for your students and we want our BCE Bears ready to do their important work! Thank you.
Science Fair ~ Just a reminder that the BCE Science Fair will be taking place January 31 – February 2, 2018. All students from kindergarten through 5th grade are invited to participate. For more information visit http://bce.slvusd.org/student-
Completed application forms should be returned to the office by December 15.
Canned Food Drive ~ The Valley Christmas Project Canned Food Drive is ongoing. Please send in your non-perishable donations to help support families in our community. This is a great opportunity for our children to discover the good feeling we receive when we do good things for others.

Empathy Quote of the Week :
"The story is a machine for empathy. In contrast to logic or reason, a story is about emotion that gets staged over a sequence of dramatic moments, so you empathize with the characters, without really thinking about it too much. It is a really powerful tool for imagining yourself in other people's situations."
Did you know???
Missing 2 weeks of class time each year in primary school means a total of 14 weeks teaching time missed— this could have a real impact on student basic literacy and math skills.
Thank you for supporting your student by getting them to school every day and on time!
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

Shopping that helps benefit BCE: Shopping for holidays just got more rewarding! It is easy to feel the spirit of giving when your purchases can equate to monetary benefits to our school.
Amazon Smiles: Don't forget to shop Amazon Smiles for your holiday needs. If you haven't signed up simply go to www.smile.amazon.com to sign up for this program. You do not have to have a student enrolled at BCE to sign-up so be sure to tell family and friends to sign-up too! Please note that this does not work on the Amazon app on your phone!
Another fabulous opportunity is our Shutterfly Storefront. Type in BCEParentsClub.ShutterflySt
Box tops: Please continue to collect those box tops! This month's collection is tomorrow. The prize for the months of November/December will be determined and announced January 2018.
Facebook: If you are on Facebook and haven't joined our Facebook group then sign-up by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org This is a private group so members must be invited and have a student enrolled at BCE.
