BCE Bearmail 10/21/16

October 21, 2016

Dear BCE Families,

Math Night Cancelled ~ Unfortunately, we've had to cancel the math night planned for next Tuesday evening.  We plan to reschedule and will let you know the details as soon as they are finalized.  I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

News Just In ~ Boulder Creek Elementary is the recipient of the 2016 Valley Press Banner Public School Rave Award!  We are very proud of our school.  Thank you to all who voted.

The Great California Shake Out ~ As you may have heard from your student, on Thursday BCE joined schools throughout California to participate in the Great California Shake Out.  On 10/20 at 10:20, students participated in an earthquake drill.  They learned to duck, cover and hold and then practiced leaving the classroom in an orderly manner.  Our BCE Bears did a great job; I'm so very proud of them!

Drive for Schools ~ The Drive for Schools fundraiser is over and now the wait is on!  Sunday is the drawing down at the Boardwalk for the grand prize of a new Toyota Prius or $25,000!  I hope one of our BCE families is the recipient of good news this weekend!  Many thanks to Tammy Schultz and company for making this such a successful event!

Halloween - There are a few guidelines regarding costumes.  Costumes should be in good taste and safely constructed so that they do not interfere with regular class activities.  Gruesome costumes and bloody, fake wounds are not appropriate for an elementary school.  Weapons (including fakes), skateboards and roller blades are not allowed as part of costumes.   If you are unsure, please contact your child's teacher or the office before purchasing the costume.  The Halloween Parade is slated for Monday, October 31st at 9:00 am on the upper playground.

Road Update ~ Laurel Street is now open and the final touches are being put in place.  With the parking spaces now being identified on the left side of the road, there is NO PARKING on the right side of Laurel.  Thank you for keeping or students and community safe.

Free Carbon Monoxide Alarms ~ Boulder Creek Fire District is happy to announce that we have a number of Carbon Monoxide Alarms we would like to pass along to families who are in need of one, free of charge! We have a limited number on hand; therefore this is on a first come first serve biases. Please send an e-mail to pvickers@bcfd.com to get further details.

Donations needed ~ We are in need of children's clothing in small to medium sizes.  Our most significant need is for easy to pull on pants and leggings.  We are also in need of small to medium underwear.  We have children coming in to the office who need a change due to an accident or a slip in the mud.  It is a much less embarrassing situation for our students if we can provide them with replacement clothes that fit them. Thank you for your generosity.

Playground Closed ~ Just a reminder that our playgrounds are closed until 8:10 am when a staff member arrives to supervise students.  Students arriving before 8:10 may wait in the office or join students for breakfast in the MP.  Unfortunately, we cannot have parents supervising students without a staff member being present.  Thank you for your understanding and help in keeping all our kids safe.

Important Calendar Information ~ Just a reminder that Family Conferences are the week of November 14 – 18 and we will be on a minimum day schedule.  Kindergarten will be dismissed at 11:50, 1st – 3rd will be dismissed at 12:10 and 4th and 5th graders will be dismissed at 12:15 pm.

Once again our Thanksgiving Break is a weeklong.  There will be no school the week of November 21 – 25.

Quote of the Week (Positive Attitude):

"Do what you can with what you have where you are."

Did you know???

Families should try to avoid extended vacations that require your students to miss school.  Try to line up vacations with the school's schedule.  The same goes for doctor's appointments.

Thank you for supporting your student by getting them to school every day and on time!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
