Dear BCE Families,

Recognition Assembly ~ We had our first recognition assembly of the year on Wednesday. Thank you to our Parent Club for purchasing the BCE Way bracelets that each student will get this year when then are recognized for demonstrating the BCE Way.  Congratulations to all our students who were recognized for being Responsible, Safe and/or Respectful.  We have amazing students here at BCE and I know the teachers struggled at being able to honor a handful at this assembly.  Luckily, we have five more assemblies to get them all up on stage!

Your Help Is Needed ~ Santa Cruz County is making a plan to improve safety and traffic along Highway 9. Come share your thoughts: where does Highway 9 need improvement?
The Regional Transportation Commission and the County Supervisor's Office wrote a grant and have funds for transportation engineers to design improvements to Highway 9 and adjacent roads.

The planning area runs from South Felton to north of Boulder Creek, and focuses on town centers and schools. Nearby roads that can be used bypasses or bike routes are also included in the plan.
Afterwards at 7 PM, there will be a presentation on Measure D, a sales tax measure on the ballot this November, which has $10 million in it for the projects. Stick around for that to learn more.

Halloween Costumes ~ Tomorrow will be October and I know many students are already planning their Halloween costumes. There are a few guidelines regarding costumes.  Costumes should be in good taste and safely constructed so that they do not interfere with regular class activities.  Gruesome costumes and bloody, fake wounds are not appropriate for an elementary school.  Weapons (including fakes), skateboards and roller blades are not allowed as part of costumes.   If you are unsure, please contact your child's teacher or the office before purchasing the costume

 

 

Drive for Schools ~ Would you like to win a car or $25,000 and support BCE?  Raffle tickets are $5.00 each or a book of 6 for $25.00.  Tickets will be available in the BCE office from September 15 through October 12.  100% of the proceeds from these raffle tickets support BCE!  Thank you for supporting our students!

Did you know???

Building a habit of good attendance in elementary school will help your student do well in high school, college and any career that they choose to peruse.  It is much easier to establish the expectation of regular school attendance in elementary school than it is when your student gets to middle or high school.

BCE PARENT CLUB EVENT & MEETING REMINDERS:

 

Celebrating County Fair Winners – Congratulations to BCE students Gregory Souza and Maiwenn Young for their award winning art! The art is separated into age groups (section) and once again by class (acrylic, pastel, mixed media, etc.) Awards are granted within class, and then there is one award given for the overall "Best Of Section." Both Maiwenn and Gregory won their sections. There are only six Best of Section awards given in the youth portion of the judging countywide. So it is pretty awesome that 2 of the 6 section awards were BCE kids! 

 

Drive For Schools – We will be sending home tickets next week for families to purchase. We have currently reached only 15% of our fundraising goal and we need your help! If every student purchased or sold just 1 booklet, BCE would raise over $13,000! Please fill out and return the bottom portion of your tickets along with the corresponding money. We accept cash, check (made out to BCE Parents Club), or charge. If you would like to pay by charge, a Parents Club representative will be set up at a table outside before school starting October 6^th and continuing until October 12^th. 100% of your purchase benefits BCE, and you could win a new car, $25,000 or over a hundred other prizes. Please help BCE today!!

 

 

Upcoming Events:

 

Yearbook Meeting – Being on the yearbook committee is fun, easy, and leaves a lasting memory for your child to enjoy. We will have two orientation meetings this year to choose from. There will be a morning meeting on Monday, October 3^rd at 8:30am in the back room of the office or you can attend the evening meeting on Tuesday, October 4^th at 6:30pm in the computer lab. Thank you for being a part of this wonderful keepsake!
