BCE Bearmail 10/7/16

October 7, 2016

Dear BCE Families,

No School ~ Just a reminder that there is NO SCHOOL on MONDAY.  It is a Professional Learning Day and our teachers will be busy advancing their skills in Reading Workshop.

Road Status ~ Thank you for your patience as we near the end of the road construction in front of the school.  It's almost complete and we will soon enjoy the benefits of sidewalks, a safe drop-off area and extra parking.

Appreciation ~ We received a lovely call in the office this week from a parent who noticed another parent giving one of our staff members a hard time as she was directing traffic before school.  The caller wanted us to know how much she appreciated the work of our staff members who are keeping our students safe.  Many thanks to all of you who follow the directions of our staff members who are doing their best to protect our students in a very challenging situation.

Volunteer Sign-up Days ~ Thank you so much for those of you who were able to make it to the two Volunteer Sign-up Days that were held at BCE.  If you were not able to make it, there will be two days next week to take advantage of.  On Tuesday, October 11 from 10:00 - 12:00 in the HR office or on Wednesday, October 12 from 8:15 - 9:45 in the cafeteria of our Tri-Campus, you are invited to drop by and begin the process of becoming one of our approved volunteers.  Thank you for volunteering your time to support our BCE family!

Trading Cards ~ Please let your student know that trading cards (Pokemon, magic cards, etc.) are not allowed at school.  Students may not play with or trade cards during the school day.  We have had too many issues with students who are selling cards for cash or students being persuaded into trading cards.

Playground Closed ~ Just a reminder that our playgrounds are closed until 8:10 am when a staff member arrives to supervise students.  Students arriving before 8:10 am may wait in the office or join students for breakfast in the MP.  Unfortunately, we cannot have parents supervising students without a staff member being present.  Thank you for your understanding and help in keeping all our kids safe.

GATE Parent Meeting ~ Please click here to see a flyer containing information about an upcoming GATE Parent Advisory meeting.

Halloween Costumes ~ As Halloween approaches I know many students are planning their Halloween costumes. There are a few guidelines regarding costumes.  Costumes should be in good taste and safely constructed so that they do not interfere with regular class activities.  Gruesome costumes and bloody, fake wounds are not appropriate for an elementary school.  Weapons (including fakes), skateboards and roller blades are not allowed as part of costumes.   If you are unsure, please contact your child's teacher or the office before purchasing the costume

Drive for Schools ~ Would you like to win a car or $25,000 and support BCE?  Raffle tickets are $5.00 each or a book of 6 for $25.00.  Tickets will be available in the BCE office through October 12.  100% of the proceeds from these raffle tickets support BCE!  Thank you for supporting our students!

Did you know???

Attendance matters as early as kindergarten.  Studies show many children who miss too many days in kindergarten and first grade can struggle academically in later years.  They often have trouble mastering reading by the end of 3rd grade.

Thank you for supporting your student by getting them to school every day and on time!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

***BCE Needs You!!!  Please support our Drive For Schools Fundraiser!***

Drive For Schools – You could win a new car, $25,000, or over a hundred other prizes just by supporting BCE with a purchase of Drive For School tickets. You buy tickets, BCE gets 100% of the proceeds, and you're entered into the most exciting drawing our county has ever known.  We have only one week left to earn money for our school, and we are only at 25% of our goal.  Please get your tickets today!  A Parent Club representative will be out each morning to sell tickets, collect your tickets & cash, or to provide you with more tickets if you wish.  We accept cash, check (made out to BCE Parent Club), or charge.  We will also be outside of Johnnie's after school and on the weekend, so look for us!  Please connect with neighbors or family who might also be interested in winning big prizes.

Family Dinner Night – Save the date for deliciousness, because Edo's Sushi is sponsoring our next Family Dinner Night on Wednesday, October 12 from 5 pm to 9 pm.  Your meal not only benefits your belly, but 4th grade as well!  So head on down to Edo's, enjoy the company of our fabulous BCE community, and support 4th grade!

Parents Club Meeting – Join us on Thursday, October 13 at 6:30 pm in the Multi-Purpose room for an hour of BCE Parents Club business.  We want your voice to be a part of the conversation.  Free daycare is always provided.
