Dear BCE Families,
ICE CREAM SOCIAL HAS BEEN POSTPONED DUE TO POOR AIR QUALITY. WATCH THIS SPACE FOR THE 'SCOOP' ON A NEW DATE!
IMPORTANT SAFETY CONCERN ~ We have had many parents and staff members express concern about the unsafe conditions during drop off and pick up times. We have cars that are parking in the drop off zone and in no parking areas of Laurel, and cars that are parking in the no parking turn around area at the top of Harmon. Unfortunately, we have also had incidents when drivers and walkers did not follow the directions of the staff members charged with directing pedestrian and motor traffic. All of these conditions contribute to making conditions unsafe for our students. Thank you for supporting and protecting our BCE community
GATE Parent Meeting ~ Please click here to see a flyer containing information about an upcoming GATE Parent Advisory meeting.
Triple P ~ I am excited to let you know that BCE will be hosting three parenting seminars this fall. Positive Parenting Program (Triple P) is a program of First 5. All seminars are free of charge and childcare is provided. BCE has hosted Triple P seminars and groups in the past and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Please click here to view the flyer that contains all the details on these wonderful upcoming seminars.
Site Council ~ Please join us on Monday for our BCE Site Council Meeting. We will be meeting in our library at 3:00 pm to review our BCE Site Plan as we prepare to send it forward for Board approval. Our 2017-18 Site Council is in place as we were lucky enough to have all our members return, however everyone is welcome! The purpose of our BCE School Site Council is to provide transparency as we work together on goals that support our BCE students and their academic as well as social and emotional growth.
Time is Running Out!!! ~ Would you like to win a car or $25,000 and support BCE? Raffle tickets are $5.00 each or a book of 6 for $25.00. Tickets will be available in the BCE office from September 14 through October 18. 100% of the proceeds from the raffle tickets support BCE! Thank you for supporting our students!
Halloween Costumes ~ As Halloween approaches, I know many students are planning their Halloween costumes. There are a few guidelines regarding costumes. Costumes should be in good taste and safely constructed so that they do not interfere with regular class activities. Gruesome costumes and bloody, fake wounds are not appropriate for an elementary school. Weapons (including fakes), skateboards and roller blades are not allowed as part of costumes. If you are unsure, please contact your child's teacher or the office before purchasing the costume.

Empathy Quote of the Week :
"Empathy is a tool for building people into groups, for allowing us to function as more than self-obsessed individuals."
Did you know???
Attendance matters as early as kindergarten. Studies show many children who miss too many days in kindergarten and first grade can struggle academically in later years. They often have trouble mastering reading by the end of 3rd grade.
Thank you for supporting your student by getting them to school every day and on time!
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
The BCE Way: BE RESPECTFUL, BE SAFE, BE RESPONSIBLE
BCE PARENT CLUB EVENT & MEETING REMINDERS:
Ice Cream Social: has been postponed. We will find another date to enjoy ice cream when the air quality is better.
Drive For Schools: Next week is the last week to purchase your Drive For Schools tickets! YOU could win a car, $25,000 cash, or over a hundred other prizes. Please look for the envelope that came home with your child. It contains tickets for purchase. All you need to do is fill out the bottom portion of your tickets and return them (along with money - $5 for one or a whole booklet of 6 tickets for $25) to your child's teacher, the office, or the Drive For School table on campus by Friday, October 20. BCE will receive 100% of the profits. We are currently FAR from our goal so, please help by purchasing tickets and asking family members to do so as well. If you would rather not participate, but instead just donate, please do so at the office or the Drive For Schools table. Happy Selling and Good Luck!!!
Our next Family Dinner Night will be Wednesday, October 18 4-9 pm at the Boulder Creek Golf and Country Club. Noodle Night will offer pasta and salad bar choices with discounted kids versions. There will also be BINGO. Flyers go home Monday. No time for games? A less expensive grab-and-go will be available as well. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the TK/Kindergarten classes.
FREE PARENTING SEMINARS: Speaker Dr. Heather Thomsen will be back for another round of The Power of Positive Parenting (PPP) at the BCE Library. Come get your parenting vitamin and figure out how to yell less and parent more effectively. Classes start October 19 on Thursdays from 6-8 pm. Attend one, two or all three classes. Please register in advance by emailing drheatherthomsen@gmai
SPIRITWEAR: Show your BCE pride with some new Spiritwear! Order forms went home this week, and are due (with payment) on October 27. Super cool grey options have suddenly become available, so if you want to try a heather grey with blue insignia version of: Youth/Adult/Ladies long sleeve shirts or Youth/Adult Pullover Sweatshirts or Zip sweatshirts, write **GRAY** on your order form. Classic blue with gold accents are always available. Please remember sweatpants run long!
Family Science Night: Mark your calendars for the San Jose Children's Discovery Museum Science Night at the BCE MP room. Thursday, November 9, 6-8 pm. The theme will be Amusement Park Science. This is always a well-attended, super-fun for the whole family event.
The next Parent Club meeting will be on Thursday, November 16. Come find out about school events planned for this year, and help us figure out how to spend the $ from last year! We had a great showing this month and are so excited to welcome new faces and opportunities to get involved!
Learning Garden: If you signed up for Learning Garden or didn't get a chance to sign up, checkout the LG website at: https://jacquie6516.wixsite.
Yearbook: email: bcepc.yearbook@gmail.com to get in touch.
Amazon Smiles: if you haven't signed up already just go to www.smile.amazon.com You do not have to have a student enrolled at BCE to sign-up so be sure to tell family and friends to sign-up too! This does not work on the Amazon app on your phone, so order on your phone and then log into your amazon smiles account online to give the school a credit. Amazon gave over $400 to BCE last year through this program.
Box tops: You can help the school by collecting box tops! There are drop boxes in every classroom as well as one in the office. They are collected monthly. Proceeds go for P.E. equipment. In the past we have made over $1,000, so start collecting because it really does add up. Ask your friends and family to help as well!
Facebook: If you are on Facebook and haven't joined our Facebook group then sign-up by sending an e-mail to bcepc.execs@gmail.com This is a private group so members must be invited and have a student enrolled at BCE. It is a great forum to ask questions, receive announcements and stay involved.
Find us and like us on Facebook. Search for Boulder Creek Elementary Parent Club.
Special Help!: We are looking for a person to help with maintaining our school website. Please contact us at bcepc.execs@gmail.com if you, or someone you know, is interested in this volunteer opportunity.

This link is provided as a courtesy for parents & students, by the San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District, to receive information of current local events and opportunities. The San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District does not sponsor or endorse any of the organizations or events that are located here.
The Flyer Process for San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District is posted on the "home" page of the District website at www.slvusd.org. The flyers and/or blurbs are no longer inserted into the school newsletters or distributed to the children. The District is making an effort to reduce the amount of paper that is sent home with your child(ren) and is working together to streamline the newsletter so that you read about the most important information regarding your child's school. The District has created a website where all of the approved flyers will be posted (Community Opportunity).
