Dear BCE Families,
Fire Safety Week ~ This past week has been Fire Safety Week here at BCE! Ask your student what they learned and perhaps work on a fire safety plan for your family.
Ice Cream! ~ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! I hope to see many of you next Friday, October 13, between 5 and 7 pm for our annual Ice Cream Social. Remember the first scoop is free for all BCE students!
Hot Off the Press! ~ Here is the next installment in a series of articles written especially for SLVUSD. As you know, this year our wonderful Mental Health Counselor, Jen Sims, is writing monthly articles on subjects that support the growth and well being of our students and all of us that support our BCE Bears. Please click here to read Jen's article on empathy with a focus on communication.
4th Grade Families ~ If you have a 4th grader, you and your family can now get in to our National Parks for free. The initiative is called Every Kid in a Park. The goal is to get 4th grade students and their families to explore nature and discover the living history here at home and all across the nation. Every single 4th grader in the United States can receive a free family pass to the national parks. Please click on the link below to find out how to access your free park pass.
Drive for Schools ~ Would you like to win a car or $25,000 and support BCE? Raffle tickets are $5.00 each or a book of 6 for $25.00. Tickets will be available in the BCE office from September 14 through October 18. 100% of the proceeds from the raffle tickets support BCE! Thank you for supporting our students!
Halloween Costumes ~ As we turned the calendar to October, I know many students are already planning their Halloween costumes. There are a few guidelines regarding costumes. Costumes should be in good taste and safely constructed so that they do not interfere with regular class activities. Gruesome costumes and bloody, fake wounds are not appropriate for an elementary school. Weapons (including fakes), skateboards and roller blades are not allowed as part of costumes. If you are unsure, please contact your child's teacher or the office before purchasing the costume
Triple P ~ I am excited to let you know that BCE will be hosting three parenting seminars this fall. Positive Parenting Program (Triple P) is a program of First 5. All seminars are free of charge and childcare is provided. BCE has hosted Triple P seminars and groups in the past and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Please click here to view the flyer that contains all the details on these wonderful upcoming seminars.
Food for Thought ~ In light of some of the tragic situations that have been in the news lately, click here for an edited version of an article I read. It contains some useful tips regarding talking to students about difficult situations.

Empathy Quote of the Week :
"I think we all have empathy. We may not have enough courage to display it."
Did you know???
Attendance matters as early as kindergarten. Studies show many children who miss too many days in kindergarten and first grade can struggle academically in later years. They often have trouble mastering reading by the end of 3rd grade.
Thank you for supporting your student by getting them to school every day and on time!
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
The BCE Way: BE RESPECTFUL, BE SAFE, BE RESPONSIBLE
Our next Family Dinner Night will be Wednesday, October 18th, at the Boulder Creek Golf and Country Club. Noodle Night will offer pasta and salad bar choices with discounted kids versions. More information will be forthcoming. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the TK/Kindergarten classes.
The next Parent Club meeting will be on Thursday, October 12. Come find out about school events planned for this year, and help us figure out how to spend the $ from last year!
Drive For Schools: This is one of our biggest fundraisers for the school with 100% profits to BCE! You can reserve your tickets now using the form sent home or stop by the office to purchase. Purchase books with 6 tickets each for $25, or $5/ticket. Make checks payable to: BCE Parents Club. Watch for the tables to buy tickets at the Harvest Festival this Saturday and after school in the main corridors during late October. Tickets are available until October 18. There are so many great prizes! We have BCE winners every year! Drawing for the grand prize of $25,000 or brand new car held at the Boardwalk on October 29.
FREE PARENTING SEMINARS: Speaker Dr. Heather Thomsen will be back for another round of The Power of Positive Parenting (PPP) at the BCE Library. Come get your parenting vitamin and figure out how to yell less and parent more effectively. Classes start October 19 on Thursdays from 6-8 pm. Attend one, two or all three classes. Please register in advance by emailing drheatherthomsen@gmai
Learning Garden: If you signed up for Learning Garden or didn't get a chance to sign up, checkout the LG website at: https://jacquie6516.wixsit
Yearbook: email: bcepc.yearboo
Amazon Smiles: if you haven't signed up already just go to www.smile.amazon.com You do not have to have a student enrolled at BCE to sign-up so be sure to tell family and friends to sign-up too! This does not work on the Amazon app on your phone, so order on your phone and then log into your amazon smiles account online to give the school a credit. Amazon gave over $400 to BCE last year through this program.
Box tops: You can help the school by collecting box tops! There are drop boxes in every classroom as well as one in the office. They are collected monthly. Proceeds go for P.E. equipment. In the past we have made over $1,000, so start collecting because it really does add up. Ask your friends and family to help as well!
Facebook: If you are on Facebook and haven't joined our Facebook group then sign-up by sending an e-mail to email@example.com This is a private group so members must be invited and have a student enrolled at BCE. It is a great forum to ask questions, receive announcements and stay involved.
Find us and like us on Facebook. Search for Boulder Creek Elementary Parent Club.
Special Help!: We are looking for a person to help with maintaining our school website. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you, or someone you know, is interested in this volunteer opportunity.

The San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District does not sponsor or endorse any of the organizations or events that are located here.
The Flyer Process for San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District is posted on the "home" page of the District website at www.slvusd.org. The flyers and/or blurbs are no longer inserted into the school newsletters or distributed to the children. The District is making an effort to reduce the amount of paper that is sent home with your child(ren) and is working together to streamline the newsletter so that you read about the most important information regarding your child's school. The District has created a website where all of the approved flyers will be posted (Community Opportunity).
