BCE Bearmail 10/27/17 - ICE CREAM SOCIAL TONIGHT 5-7!!!

October 27, 2017

Dear BCE Families,

TONIGHT Ice Cream! ~ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!  I hope to see many of you tonight between 5 and 7 pm, for our annual Ice Cream Social.  Remember the first scoop is free for all BCE students!

Halloween ~ There are a few guidelines regarding costumes.  Costumes should be in good taste and safely constructed so that they do not interfere with regular class activities.  Gruesome costumes and bloody, fake wounds are not appropriate for an elementary school.  Weapons (including fakes), skateboards and roller blades are not allowed as part of costumes.  If you are unsure, please contact your child's teacher or the office before purchasing the costume.  The Halloween Parade is slated for Tuesday, October 31 at 9:00 am on the upper playground.

Safety Concerns ~ Some students have been bringing "Orbeez" on campus this week.  These are tiny balls made of super absorbent polymers that swell when added to water.  When in their small state, they can be mistaken for candy, which if ingested would swell in the stomach, and when enlarged they resemble a gummy candy or jello.  Please help us keep everyone safe by not allowing your student to bring these to school.

Also, there has been a large amount of home-made "slime" appearing around campus and students are bringing it in various containers which can be mistaken for food.  Again, please help us keep everyone safe by keeping the slime at home.

Thank you!

WooHoo! ~ The Drive for Schools raffle raised $8,364!!!!  Many thanks to Tammy Schultz, Kat Gafford, Chrissy Dahl and everyone else who worked to make this such a successful fundraiser for BCE.  Good luck to all on Sunday's drawing for the car!

College and Career Week ~ Next week, SLVUSD will celebrate College and Career Readiness Week.  In elementary school, a college ready student is an academically prepared student, ready for post-secondary education or training without the need for remedial coursework. Whether you are pursuing a four-year degree or studying for a skilled trade license, being ready means having the reading, writing, mathematics, social, and cognitive skills to qualify for and succeed in the academic program of your choice.

Triple P ~ Our final Triple P Parenting Seminar is scheduled next Thursday!  I hope you are able to join this powerful group as you work together to support your family. The focus of Thursday's class will be "Raising Resilient Children."  Positive Parenting Program (Triple P) is a program of First 5.  All seminars are free of charge and childcare is provided.  BCE has hosted Triple P seminars and groups in the past and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.  Please click here to view the flyer that contains all the details.

Did you know???

It's always better to be safe than sorry.  If your students are going out trick or treating on Monday, please make sure they are in a group supervised by an adult and remind them not to eat any candy or treats until you've inspected them.

Thank you for supporting your student by getting them to school every day and on time!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

Yearbook: Please don't forget to take photos at Ice Cream Social and Halloween! Create a log-in and upload your pix to: https://link.entourageyearbooks.com/welcome.asp?action=photos&yearbook_id=22741&guid=

Or email: bcepc.yearbook@gmail.com to get in touch.

Amazon Smiles: If you haven't signed up already just go to www.smile.amazon.com You do not have to have a student enrolled at BCE to sign-up so be sure to tell family and friends to sign-up too!  This does not work on the Amazon app on your phone, so order on your phone and then log into your amazon smiles account online to give the school a credit.  Amazon gave over $400 to BCE last year through this program.

Box tops: You can help the school by collecting box tops!  New collection forms went home this week.  There are drop boxes in every classroom as well as one in the office.  They are collected monthly.  The class with the most box tops this month gets a pizza party!  Proceeds go towards P.E. equipment.  In the past we have made over $1,000, so start collecting because it really does add up.  Ask your friends and family to help as well!

Facebook Group: Join our Facebook group by e-mailing us at bcepc.execs@gmail.com  This is a private group so you must be invited and have a student enrolled in order to be a member. It is a great forum to ask questions, receive announcements and stay involved.
