Fwd: BCE Bearmail 5/27/16

May 27, 2016

Dear BCE Families,

Reminder ~ Just a reminder that there will be no school on Monday.  Enjoy the long Memorial Day weekend and we'll see you back at BCE bright and early on Tuesday!

Lost & Found ~ The lost and found pile continues to grow!  Please come by and take a look to see if anything belongs to your student.  Any items left after the last day of school will be donated to charity.

End of year ~ As the end of the year approaches we can feel the summer energy increase.  Please help your student make the most of these last days of school by keeping to a routine as much as possible and reminding them how important their job as a student is.

Library ~ The BCE library is closed for the school year.  Please return any library books your student still may have. Payment for lost or damaged books can be made in the office.  Thank you!

Transitional Kindergarten (TK) ~ We are happy to announce that for the 2016-2017 school year, San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District (SLVUSD) will be expanding the Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Program. Classrooms will be available at San Lorenzo Valley (SLVE) and Boulder Creek (BCE). Registration is now open to all eligible students.

SLVUSD will also be offering the transitional kinder opportunity to four year olds whose birthdays are in December, January, and February. This exceptional TK Program that prepares students for social, emotional, and academic success in school will now be offered to additional students. It is our goal to serve every student; however, funding and space are limited at this time.

We will add as many students as space allows. TK classes are now available for eligible four-year-old students whose birthdate falls between December 2011 and February 2012, and possibly into March 2012, depending on enrollment. The following priority will be given in filling seats for TK and ETK:

·       TK eligible students will have priority enrollment into the TK

§  Four year olds who will turn five between September 2nd - December 2nd (per Ed. Code 48000)

·       Then Extended Transitional Kindergarten (ETK) eligible students will have priority enrollment based on their month of birth.

§  First Priority:  Four year olds who will turn five in December

§  Second Priority:  Four year olds who will turn five in January

§  Third Priority:  Four year olds who will turn five in February

§  Fourth Priority:  Four year olds who will turn five in March

TK and ETK students will be on the same school calendar and hours as the elementary Kindergarten program.  If you are interested in attending TK or ETK at SLVE and BCE, please make sure you register your child at their respective elementary school.  A TK Parent Meeting is planned for August 2016 to welcome students and parents to TK.

Please note:  both of these programs are not mandated by the state and are at the sole discretion of each individual district.   In addition, transportation will not be provided for TK/ETK.

Important Registration Information ~ All students currently enrolled in one of our SLVUSD schools should have already received an email from Gail Heagerty, our Student Information System and Database Specialist; the subject line was "New Annual Student Online Registration."

All annual student online registrations need be submitted by the parent/guardian no later than Friday, June 17.  After this date the system will be locked and you will not be able to access the registration system until mid August.

If you have already updated your student's registration information, THANK YOU!  If you did not receive or do not remember if you received the email, please search your emails for anything sent by:  gheagerty@slvusd.org.  If you did not receive the email we probably have an incorrect or outdated email for you.  Please contact our registrar Alma Steinberg.  Alma will be able to correct your email in our system and get you the information necessary to update your student's information.

Family Survey ~ It's that time of year again!  Please take a moment to complete our Family Survey.  The information we receive from the survey guides us in our plans for next school year.  Thank you for your time.  link

Student Lunch Card Accounts ~ The following is a message from our Student Nutrition Service Department (SNS):

To Parents/Guardians....

As of May 2nd, the Cafeteria will no longer allow meals on credit for the remainder of this school year. If your student has a negative meal account balance please have them pay the balance due at any cash register during any meal service. If your student pays for their meals in full they will need to have money on their account or payment with them to make their purchase. This is done every school year in an effort to clear negative accounts.

Upcoming Dates to Remember

·       Monday 5/30 = No School (Memorial Day Holiday)

·       Tuesday 6/7 = Parent Club Meeting

·       Wednesday 6/8 = NO Early Out (regular dismissal time for all grades)

·       Thursday 6/9 = Last Student Day, Early Dismissal (K = 11:50, 1st – 5th = 12:15)

Quote of the Week (Courage)

"There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up."

Did you know???

Students miss important instructional time when they are checked out early from school.  Please schedule appointments for your students after school hours whenever possible.  Your student will know you support their important job when you make every effort to have them in class for their entire school day.

Wishing you all a wonderful 3-day weekend!

The BCE Way:  BE RESPECTFUL, BE SAFE, BE RESPONSIBLE

BCE PARENT CLUB EVENT & MEETING REMINDERS:

Redwood Mountain Faire – BCE has made a commitment to the Redwood Mountain Faire, and in return we are being rewarded with volunteer funds that will benefit the students of 4th grade.  Proceeds will help pay for science camp next year.  We only have 6 slots left.  Please help us reach our commitment by volunteering at the Beverage Ticket Sales Booth Two by clicking on the following link:

Volunteering will earn you free admittance to the Faire!

Parent ClubThe parent club is hugely important to BCE!  We provide the operating budget for running the office, supplies for running the classrooms, funds for field trips, community events, and so much more.  We need a President (or two), a Vice-President (or two), and a treasurer, as well as event coordinators for next year.  BCE will be hurting if we can't fill these vital positions.  Please consider taking on one of these roles and sharing your expertise with the BCE community.

Parents Club Meeting – Join us on Tuesday, June 7th at 6:30 pm in the Library for our last Parents Club meeting of the school year.  Bring your budget and calendar ideas.  We will be discussing programs and services we'll keep and those we will cut based on who we have to lead them.  If an event or program is important to you and your family, please consider becoming a committee chairperson.

The Flyer Process for San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District is posted on the "home" page of the District website at www.slvusd.org.   The flyers and/or blurbs are no longer inserted into the school newsletters or distributed to the children.  The District is making an effort to reduce the amount of paper that is sent home with your child(ren) and is working together to streamline the newsletter so that you read about the most important information regarding your child's school.  The District has created a website where all of the approved flyers will be posted (Community Opportunity).
