BCE Bearmail 3/10/17 - Family Movie Night Tonight!!!

March 10, 2017

Dear BCE Families,

Thank you ~ Thank you for your patience and understanding as we dealt with the District server being down.  We weren't able to send out a Bearmail last week so a bit of this information is somewhat outdated.

SLVUSD Facebook Page ~ We have recently launched the SLVUSD Facebook page. This is a great place to see all the wonderful things that are going on at BCE and throughout the district. Please visit www.facebook.com/slvusd

Talent Show ~ Last Tuesday was our annual BCE Talent show and all I can say is WOW!  What a talented group of students we have here!  I was so impressed with their dedication and bravery.  I've already heard some of the kids planning their act for next year!

Family Movie Night ~ I hope you can join us for BCE Family Movie Night tonight. Doors to the MP will open at 6 pm and the movie (Finding Dory) will begin at 6:30 pm.  There is no cost for the movie and there will be baked goods available to purchase with money going towards the 5th grade Science Camp fund.

Omega Nu ~ A big BCE thank you goes out to Omega Nu of Santa Cruz's Funds For Fundamentals program.  Due to their generosity, ten of our teachers received grants and will share $1800 to support classroom and physical educational activities here at BCE.

Thank You! ~ On behalf of our entire staff I want to thank our Parent Club and all the families that participated in making Staff Appreciation week so special for us.  The decorated classroom doors reminded the teachers every morning as they arrived that they were entering a room where the families appreciated and supported them.  The daily treats were enjoyed by the entire staff and the luncheon was above and beyond!  Additionally, there were flowers, cards and gifts that surprised and delighted many staff members.  BCE is such a special place.  Thank you for this outpouring of love and support, it means so much to all of us!  We are so very lucky to be working with such amazing students and families.

Need Kindergarten? ~ Kindergarten registration for fall 2017 will open on March 15.  Visit the BCE office to pick up a registration packet and sign up for a spot to attend one of our three Kindergarten orientations and tours.  Tours will take place at 9am on March 16, April 18 and May 10 (adults only please).  To begin the registration process, please plan on bringing your child's birth certificate, immunization record and proof of address (e.g. utility bill with your name and address).  For more information contact Alma, our Registrar - asteinberg@slvusd.org.

Children must be five years old by September 1 in order to enroll in Kindergarten.  If your student has a September, October or November birthday you might be interested in our Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program.  For more information please call the BCE office at 831-338-6413.

We're looking forward to your student joining our BCE learning community!

Please Join Us! ~ Please join our superintendent, Dr. Laurie Bruton, as she discusses the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) for SLVUSD.  For your convenience two meetings have been planned.  The first will take place on March 28th at 6:30 pm in the Multi-Use room at the High School and the second meeting will take place on April 11th in the library at BCE.  This will be a wonderful opportunity to not only learn about the plan, but to provide input.  Please click here for a flyer and additional information.

Did you know???

Lesson that our teachers create and present in class cannot be duplicated by completing worksheets or pages in a textbook.  When your student misses time from class they are not receiving the quality experience they have with our outstanding staff.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

The Flyer Process for San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District is posted on the "home" page of the District website at www.slvusd.org.   The flyers and/or blurbs are no longer inserted into the school newsletters or distributed to the children.  The District is making an effort to reduce the amount of paper that is sent home with your child(ren) and is working together to streamline the newsletter so that you read about the most important information regarding your child's school.  The District has created a website where all of the approved flyers will be posted (Community Opportunity).
